Seeing as a review was just written here about the Boston Advance Conditioning solution by my wife, I thought I'd complement this by writing about the sister product, Boston Advance cleaner.
Both the Cleaner and the conditioning solution came as godsends to me after trying all kinds of contact lens care products. I found the other products either too fiddely or painful after finding out I had an allergy to their contents. As my wife and I are both almost completely blind without our contacts, it's very nice that we use the same contact lens solutions-we just have to watch out that we don't wear each other's lenses!
I must start by saying there is a major problem with this product- it cleans so well that you sometimes forget to use it! According to the manufacturer's instructions, you should be using it every day, but I find that ideally, every 3 or 4 days does the job. That's as far as maintenance is concerned.
Whenever I have a hard time putting my contacts in. or experience cloudy vision, all I have to do is take out my lenses and rinse them with this cleaner, and this is almost always effective.
You need to put a couple of drops on your lenses and gently rub them between you thumb and forefinger. After that (still following instructions) you rinse them under running water and then insert them into your eyes. Some other contact lens user friends and I found that some residue was still left over on the lenses after rinsing, thereby causing stinging in the eyes. My (apparently original) solution to this is to give the contacts an extra rinse with the Conditioning Solution before actually inserting them into your eyes.
As for packaging, the Boston Advance Cleaner comes in a red labeled bottle, which is not a problem even if you happen to be colour blind, as the bottle size is smaller than the companion conditioning solution.
Originally, you couldn't get this product in Europe, but since Bausch & Lomb started marketing it, happily its widely available at all pharmacies. For instance, the price at Boots is £3.24 and at Etos in the Netherlands, slightly pricier at Eur 7.80. This compares favorably with other cleaners that I have used in the past, including combination products that are for both cleaning and conditioning such as Ciba Vision's Aosept one step solution.
Thanks for reading and enjoy your clearer vision!
