As I held the iridescent beige bottle in my hands at my local boots I sincerely thought the contents of the bottle could hide all my imperfections. I purchased it as a part of a 3 for 2 offer in the lightest shade that boots had to offer - abricote clair.

At a price of £8.95 I would not have bought it in the first place as if it wasn't part of a 3 for 2 offer. I certainly won't be purchasing this foundation again. It wasn't the micro-spheres "de collagene" or even the proclamation to smooth wrinkles and fine lines that induced me to purchase this foundation. No, it was the promise of a youthful complexion. I bought in to the image of me with a glowing, healthy visage and although I didn't have any lines to be smoothed away I thought it couldn't hurt to try it anyway.

Even though I am decidedly still in my youth my skin is hardly youthful. I thought the dark circles under my eyes and my peaky uneven complexion could be fixed by this foundation made by Bourjois - one of my favourite cosmetics brands.

This foundation has a very pleasing fresh, clean smell and a silky, velvety consistency. I have extremely pale skin and when I first applied the foundation it looked like a fantastic match - glossing over my problem areas and matching my skin colour. Yet as it dried the foundation started to come up orange. I can only deduce that this foundation is suited to warm and olive skin tones rather than the palest of skin like mine.

As disappointed as I was with the colour turning distinctly orange what frustrated me more was the finish. It went onto my skin beautifully, the formula feeling rich. Yet once applied, it left my skin looking extremely shiny and oily. Instead of being matt to the touch my skin felt greasy and unclean. It did cover up my uneven patches but at the cost of the foundation looking mask like. I also found that this foundation does not having staying power. It never seems to settle, re applications and touch ups are necessary through-out the day if you want to ensure constant coverage.

However one must take into account that this foundation was created for those wanting to conceal fine lines and aging skin. As aging skin is continually losing its elasticity it needs a foundation which can replenish lost oils and moisturise. So whilst far too oily for my young skin for another skin type it could be perfect.

I am sceptical about this foundations anti aging credentials. Any minute lines I did have were made more noticeable as the foundation seeped into my tiny lines! I am no scientist but I don't think "micro-spheres de collagene" are going to help smooth lines that much. I am also no professor of English but I couldn't find any mention of collagen in the ingredients list. However I am studying to be an economist and I do believe the anti aging assurances on the bottle to be some very clever marketing.

The foundation has a pleasant yet boring bottle with a pink cap which is admittedly very durable. Even when the cap comes off the pump head is very strong and doesn't break off (as has happened to me with a much better Bourjois foundation "24 hour sleep effect") even when bashed around in a handbag.

At a price of £8.95 I would not have bought it in the first place as if it wasn't part of a 3 for 2 offer. I certainly won't be purchasing this foundation again. The positives of this product are slight and one is better off without foundation than wearing this! Having said that I would advise those with very dry skin to at least test it as it could be what they are searching for.
