I don't normally wear lipstick, but after seeing a couple of adverts on this product I felt intrigued and so decided to part ways with £7 on the latest product from my favourite make up brand.
*BOURJOIS* is one of the oldest French cosmetics companies dating back to the 1860s, when Alexandre Bourjois, a French perfumier created Pastel Joues, the world's first powder blush because he knew how dissatisfied French stage actresses were with their thick, uncomfortable and damaging theatre make up. The small round pots have remained a signature of the brand to this day.
In fact, *PACKAGING* is one of the key things - Bourjois is an innovative company, always coming up with clever new concepts - and Rouge Lovely is no exception. It stands at around 2½ inches tall, and is not quite an inch in diameter. The lipstick is not straight --> | | <-- , but the curve to it's packaging is only slight - so it's not quite --> ) ( <-- in shape (if you see what I mean). It's the perfect size to fit into any handbag, or maybe even a pocket, and the mirrored lid means you can re-touch anywhere, anytime. The packaging, like most Bourjois packaging, is shade-matched, which makes it that much easier when you're looking for this stuff at your Bourjois stand. You'll also find a silver circle with the Bourjois logo adorning the front of the cute lil lippy.
In keeping with another important aspect of the Bourjois philosophy on make up - *COLOUR* - the lipstick is available in a wide range of shades. This list is courtesy of my mum looking dodgy with her pen and paper in Boots, and the US Bourjois website. Shades marked with an asterisk are available in the US but NOT in the UK (to my knowledge).
I'm really impressed that this, like most other Bourjois products, has a range of shades that reflects this season's colours, and a range to suit everyone - subtle right through to some quite bold shades. Rouge Lovely is also very versatile - you can achieve a day-time look by blotting which is very pretty, or go more sophisticated by not blotting at night. You'll find this tip, along with others from Daniel Sandler - a celebrity make-up artist and spokesperson for Bourjois, on the UK Bourjois website.
Bourjois also claims that it is a company which maintans the highest standards in *QUALITY*
"[All Bourjois products] are created and manufactured in France, in laboratories and factories that maintain the strictest standards of quality control, ensuring excellence in every item carrying the Bourjois logo."
I'd certainly agree with this statement, this lipstick has virtually followed me everywhere on my travels in the few weeks that I've had it.
As lipsticks go, and remember I don't wear that many so I'm probably not the best person to ask, I find it light to wear - I'm so the person who puts some lipstick or lipgloss on and then reaches for the nearest drink - no sooner have I applied it than it's on the rim of a wine glass. Great! Infact I did this with my Rouge Lovely the other day, and was pleasantly surprised to find some of the product actually left on my lips after I've taken a sip. It definitely won't last you through an entire night with just the one application (I've only used a lighter shade so I wouldn't be able to comment on the wear of some of the bolder shades) but I don't feel the need to reapply every five minutes - normally I can get by with one, sometimes two reapplications. And I think that's pretty decent.
It also has quite a pleasant fragrance, not one that I can describe very well, needless to say that it's not true strong and overpowering, just lipsticky.
Talking of sticky, this lipstick isn't. It feels really nice on your lips, very creamy, 'satin-textured' and not too heavy, with a very slight gloss - more of a sheen I would say mostly due to it's moisturing *INGREDIENTS* - such as Vitamin E and protective UV filters. Unfortunately, for those of you who require more information on ingredients, the only way to access this information is from the Ingredients Booklet, available at each and every Bourjois stand, or by e-mailing -- products@bourjois-corps.comBourjois makes the following claims:
Its products are NOT tested on animals
Its products contain no GMOs (genetically modified organisms)
It endeavours to make all of its products as hypo-allergenic as possible.
Nevertheless, I still find it disappointing that Bourjois doesn't make the ingredients in its products more readily available.
Talking of *AVAILABILITY* the Bourjois website gives a list of stores you can buy this Lovely Lipstick from. ♦ Boots ♦ Superdrug ♦ Tesco ♦ John Lewis ♦ Lloyds ♦ Independent Chemists ♦ Asos.com ♦ Waitrose
NB: I've checked the Boots, Superdrug and John Lewis website and cannot find this product on there. However I know that is available in these stores.
-- Asos.com appears to be a very recent addition to this list, I've just been on and there are infact only 10 Bourjois products available on there, and unfortunately Rouge Lovely is not one of them at this moment in time. --
I paid £4.50 for mine, on special offer at Boots, but it would ordinarily cost you around £6.95.
-- Useful Websites -- www.bourjois.co.uk -- the UK Bourjois website www.bourjoisusa.com - the US Bourjois website (if you visit the product page for Rouge Lovely you'll find the shades available and a colour chart thing so you can actually see the shades).
