First & foremost do not even bother looking at Bournemouth as a prospective university unless you are going to be part of the Media school. Im sorry to rubbish all the other courses but there really are better places to go! (However, i believe the Art College it good but then again I don't think it's part of the uni)
However, if you are going to university just to have fun this is the place to do it! The beach is 7 miles of golden sand, the nightlife is really good and caters for all tastes so whether you're in to hip-hop, r'n'b, pop, heavy metal... whatever, you'll be happy in Bournemouth. The town is very pretty, the array of shops isn't vast but it's enough.
Back to the point though, the University itself... In recent years they've added a really good library and loads more computers (however, I really would advise taking your own computer and have private access to the internet as the uni computers are rarely free!). New buildings and facilities are constantly being added therefore the University is constantly improving and a great deal of money is being spent here! Everyone is very friendly and you will have no trouble making some excellent buddies! There are lots of activities you can get involved in but most people that go to Bournemouth go there for the nightlife. The Firestation is the uni's own nightclub and its pretty good, catering for all tastes by holding various nights such as 'rumpshaker' for R'n'B fans and 80's nights etc. The drinks are cheap and so is the entrance fee, however, a word of warning - you can't get in after 11.30pm which is an arse! Other nightlife options in Bournemouth can prove pricey so the Firestation offers a good night out on the cheap!
As far as housing is concerned, in the first year you'll be 'lucky' to get into halls as 50% of first years are put in rented houses with other students, or even hotels (not as nice as it sounds!). I was in halls in my first year, 'Cranbourne house' and although the location was great for shopping and the nightlife, the flat was minging and my room was tiny and my experience probably wasn't helped by the fact that 1 of my flatmates tried to commit suicide and had to leave, another flatmate used to have all his mates round and play bongos all night (and I mean ALL night!) and another flatmate annoyed the hell out of me because where I was nocturnal (as in, I had a life and went out clubbing etc!) she didn't! We came to blows over her moaning that I woke her up 'at 3am' when I got in!!!
Anyway, sorry, I'm ranting!
After the first year its great because you calm down a bit (you have too, you've spent all your money in your 1st year!) and you get to live with the people you want! You can find fantastic houses to rent in Bournemouth at very resonable prices.
Bournemouth Uni is meant for people who want to have fun, it can be quite a materialistic place so if that bothers you, best not to come. Be warned, students in Bournemouth tend to go a little crazy in the promiscuous sense, so if you're not that way inclined perhaps avoid.
I'm probably not selling the Uni to some people but I will finish on a high note... I've had a great time at Bournemouth, you are provided with lots of support if you want / need it. The Bournemouth staff are great, really friendly and helpful. Last but not least, the weather is normally really good and in the summer it really is like being abroad when the weather is fine. Lots of my friends at Uni love Bournemouth saying it's like being on holiday all year round.
So if that doesn't sell it to you, I don't know what will!
Many thanks for reading and I wish you all the best if you go to Bournemouth!xxx
Advantages: Social life, beaches, vocational Disadvantages: reputation as a retirement town, distance from London
...completed a 4yr degree at Bournemouth in Information Systems Management (now called Business Information Systems Management).
I really enjoyed my 4 years there. Besides the course, Bournemouth has a great social scene with lods of bars and clubs (perhaps too many) and has been referred to as the UK's clubbing capital a number of times by popular club mag's.
Being close to the coast is great for Summer too, the beaches are nice and clean and the ...

Advantages: Friendly people, lots of pubs, clubs, nightlife Disadvantages: Not the strongest of academics, lack of accommodation
Although Bournemouth isn't an known as an academic university, its vocational benefits are impressive. I am a student on Bsc Business Information Technology, and although it is not as indepth as a Computer Science Degree it gives a broad range of knowledge across the Computing/Business field. The lecturers are mainly from Industry having worked on real life projects etc. and so know what is expected in the world of work. Some of the areas on the ... ...years I have been studying.
Bournemouth has always been known as a retirement town, and until the university opened things were getting a little tired. However, the new influx of students has meant the area has had to adapt and this has meant lots of new pubs and clubs have opened to accomodate the crowds.
Bournemouth is lucky as a university as it has its own nightclub - The Firestation, which is regularly packed to capacity.
The university seems ...

Advantages: excellant night life, friendly, good facilities, small Disadvantages: ?!? Its not Cambridge or Oxford!!
Bournemouth university is not overly well known. Bournemouth as a place has always been renouned for old people rather than student types but in the last few years it has got more and more fashionable and an excellant place for pubbing, clubbing and I suppose a bit of studying....

Avoid it for Law, Finance and Language (there are better ones out there!!)
In terms of place Bournemouth is wicked. Loads to do, by the sea, cheap drinks, classy wine bars and cheesy night clubs (along with cool as hell ones like slinky!!)
Avoid Boscombe area at all costs (unless your into drugs and prostitutes)and ...

Advantages: Job oriented, good social life Disadvantages: Not a top uni
...am a recent graduate of Bournemouth University and have lived in the town for many years. The university cannot pretend to be one of the best in the country, but if you in its class it does very well. Most importantly, it's reputation is on the rise. The university is most definitely vocation oriented. So, if you are interested in academic research, forget this univesity. The libraries are not huge, but acceptable. With regards to IT facilities, it is suggested that you have you own pc to avoid the crush at assignment deadlines.
The town will be disappointing if you are coming from the bright lights of London, but as a provincial town, it has quite a wide variety of bars and night clubs. Also, the fact that its on the coast is appealing, although ...

Advantages: Nice surroundings Disadvantages: Quality of teaching and facilities
I attended Bournemouth University for three years in order to gain my BA (Hons) Business Studies degree. Bournemouth University is not an organisation renowned for its intellectual output, rather it is a slick business operation designed to make money.
Quality of teaching is average at best, and very little research is carried out by the associated Business School. What Bournemouth does do well is inspire people to get into the work ethic early ... ...thrown out at Easter.
Bournemouth itself is not the sleepy retirement town many imagine it to be. There are a wide range of financial services employers in the town. Students tend to stay around campus, or at clearly defined student pubs and clubs as the local ‘townies’ can be hostile. It is more expensive than the northern colleges, but part time employment is plentiful. Bar and wait staff are always in demand, and I spent many an unhappy evening ...

Advantages: Best reputation for a journalism course in the UK Disadvantages: Not for the faint hearted - it's hard work!
I am a current, first-year student at BournemouthUniversity, on the BA (Hons) Multi-Media Journalism course. I felt that it was about time I told you about the university and the course, as I always have "Journalism student" in my about me section, and often mention the fact that I am studying it here.
So without further ado, I shall explain the course.
Location of the programme
The Multi-Media Journalism course takes place on BournemouthUniversity's Talbot Campus. The Media School is based in Weymouth House.
In the last couple of years, an extension was built on the building, and it now looks very similar to the BBC Television Centre building in terms of style. It has been decorated with commissioned photographs of the local area, as well as clever, artistic images that make you think - for example there is a picture ...
Advantages: Qualifyinf for LPC Disadvantages: Some find it too tough
The Law Department at BournemouthUniversity forms a part of the faculty of Finance and Law. The LL.B is a qualifying law degree for exemption from academic stages of the Law Society.
The first year of the degree does not count towards the final degree result (which is a shame, because it is the easiest year). In year one, most of the core subjects are covered: Criminal Law, Law of Contracts, Public Law (another name for Constitutional Law) and Land Law. As it is a business law degree there is also an IT & Accounting module.
Year two finishes the subjects required by the Law Society and again includes an IT and Accounting module.
In the final year all subjects are optional, but the options are not very wide-ranging and some options may change at the last minute. Reknowned as the hardest options are International Trade Law ...

(Excuse the & in the title. I would have written 'Archaeological And Forensic Sciences at BournemouthUniversity' but I ran out of characters!!)
I was stood in a field, up to my elbows in muddy water when I decided I would finally get around to writing about my university course!
? The explanation for the muddy water and the field should become clear as I go on!
I'm starting my second year of 'Archaeological and Forensic Sciences' in the Conservation Sciences school at BournemouthUniversity (which is actually in Poole by the way!) This review should give information of the course, and my views of it, and also some of the university in general - all from the first-into-second year standpoint.
