Main thing I can say about this bin is an excellent, attractive, smart looking bin!
My poor old bin had to face the gutting and rebuilding of my kitchen. It got splattered with paint, artex and glue. Had its lit cracked and to top that three cats persistantly sniffing round it for the chicken bones!
Being made of cheap plastic it didn't really stand a chance, it was easy to knock over and so the cats had a field day which, I found annoying every morning when I had a kitchen floor to wash and rubbish everywhere before I could proceed to do anything else!
The bin had to go! I searched online on the Argos web site and came accross the make Brabantia. These are a well known leading brand in Europe and based somewhere in the Netherlands.
The quality of the bin did look good as I viewed the picture the price of £79.99 was a bit off putting at first but to be fair if I wanted a sturdy bin this was an approximate price that I would have to pay whatever the brand!
I purchased the bin and when it arrived I must admit I was impressed. The bin itself is made of chromium steel with a galfan coating to protect it. Good quality, hard wearing corrosion resistant materials. You can have a brilliant steel which I chose myself or you can have a brushed steel which is matt. It had a good solid feel to it, well worth the money I had spent.
The overall height measures 28 inches and the diameter of the oval shaped bin is 48 inches. A good size bin.
The volume capacity that I chose was 40 litres in gallons that would be 8.8 UK gallons or 10.6 US gallons. Brabantia bins range from 5 litres upwards.

I found this a minor drawback only but felt I should point this out to you. Its shape still saves a certain amount of space.
There is a removable stainless steel top which when placed on the bin overlaps the removable black plastic inner bucket so it is nice and streamlined. The black sturdy plastic lid itselft is nice and wide so you are able to place rubbis and foodstuffs in without any messy spills. The lid is also very easy to get at and clean. It has a soft touch mechanism. You only place the slightest amount of pressure and the lid opens smoothly by itself. Very smoothly like a good expensive cd player drawer, nice and slow. This again shows quality in the design.

I found it very easy to clean. I just use a soft damp cloth. No abrasive or chemical cleaning agents, jut plain old soapy water does the trick!
Brabantia do sell bin liners to go with this product. I had a pack of 3 liners inside the bin as a sample. I found them very good and strong. They are not visible to the eye when fitted and are a good close fit to the bin. When you wish to remove them you just pull the sealing tape and the bin liner comes away already sealed.
The only drawback is the price. 10 bags would cost you £2.75 online and to be honest any bin liner you wish to use, if placed correctly in the inner bucket is not visible to the eye when the lid is replaced so it is a matter of choice whether to purchase these.
I would definately recommend this product to anyone who wants to purchase a good longlasting item.
We bought our Brabantia soft touch bin in about 2004.Although ours is the smaller thirty litre version i wanted to express that for once you do get what you pay for.
Brabantia are a long established company with an excellent customer service department.
My bin probably cost us at least £50.Obviously it was my wifes choice and not mine.I would have gone for a cheap one!!
However it has stood the test of time and still looks as good as new.
What ... ...£17 plus postage.I thought that Brabantia direct would cost me an arm and a leg.
On their website the part is selling for about the same price BUT there is an option to buy under guarantee.
I did this filling out a small form stating that i did not have my receipt and i could only guess at when i bought it.
The order was processed and within two days i had an email reply asking me to send them back the lid.All i had to do was print off the attatched ...

Advantages: Durability, Appearance, 10 year Guarantee Disadvantages: Price
Since as of late everyone has been trashing my reviews for my comedic writing, i felt urged to defend myself by writing a detailed and honest review on a bin that can't be beat.
Capacity & Weight
First of all the bin holds 40 litres in dual capacity. Thats the equivalent to pouring 80 pints of sweet sweet apple juice into it. The bin is very stationary and can not be moved with light force stoping your pets from tossing it round the room like a ... ...good bin is not the centre attention of the room. It's casually camoflages itself into the rest of the scenery with it's shiny alluminium polish. This bin is the attractive nod to trashing with splendor.
Noise
Upon opening and shutting, it is a quiet bin since it has a bit of foam underneath the catch to stop it from sending rather large pulsating sound which echoes round the house like a symbol next to a microphone.
Price
It cost me a startling ...
