"Bradford a place for Depression"

Bradford university is not a good uni at all!

I am studying a computing course here and am fed up of it after just a few weeks, The lectures are just endlessly boring powerpoint presentations and the lecturers are even more boring, many lack any kind of enthusiasm.

Most people come to uni to socialise and make friends i too went for the same reason but the reality at bradford is far far from what you might of read/heard about it in the prospectus or on a open day. Since i have been on my course i have not met any people, almost everyone is foreign and cannot even speak english well some don't even know how to use a computer and being a computing course it begs the question 'how does bradford uni take such students?'

I think i can answer that question quite simply all they care about is money, the foreign students get such good care compared to us from the UK all because they pay more. Theres some societies and even whole buildings dedicated to help foreigners learn the english language....

If you come here don't expect to make any friends since chances are you wont unless you come with some friends you know from before, even worse theres no chance to meet any women/men really so if your wanting to find a boyfriend or girlfriend this really isnt the place since most people have religion and its just scary approaching anyone other than for work since you always feel you could get done for racism.

I never lived in the halls so i cant comment on that but on the open day i saw them and simply Yuck!! theres 2 showers and 2 toilets all in one room its very dark and smelly, the kitchen is tiny and the rooms are tiny too with badly plastered walls some were just bricks. I have heard that you cannot make holes in the walls and cannot play music loud and a guard comes to check its quiet. I dont think there are ever any parties either.

The library is decent but again theres many foreign people who use there mobiles, eat and talk in the library its very annoying and staff don't seem to do anything about it most of the time, The computer fascilities are okay and the software is good again the rooms are very noisy at times and the rooms get quite warm in the summer. They try to be modern and use Blackboard online to submit work but it hardly ever works and many times it is just plain messed up, other times they will ask you to give the work in by paper which is probably the best i really don't see why they do this ! last year many failed since they didnt know how or thought they had handed in there work online.

Overall i would not recommend coming here it's not a good uni both academically and socially the union is very weak, coming here would be a mistake i would advise you to go to leeds since it's close to bradford but you will have a life and not be depressed !

"" I thought uni was about studying?! seriously - give it time, i'm sure you'll make friends soon. x "" you say that ... but you try studying whilst having no one else to study with or have a break and socialise... if you havent experience it you wouldnt know tbh. And av given it almost a year and no change.. considering a change/dropout! thats how bad it is

I was considering Bradford for a computing course - maybe I'll give that a rethink!

This sounds awful - if, as you say, it's as bad there academically as it is socially, it's a waste of time and I hope you can find a place at another university!
