Branston Baked Beans...................

I am very partial to baked beans on toast (covered in cheese) or indeed I have been known to eat them cold straight from the can either way I have always bought Heinz as they are literally the ultimate baked bean. However as Branston Baked Beans have been on special offer in Tesco's recently (buy 4 for £1) I snapped them up and was pleasantly surprised.

The Branston Baked Bean tin design is a lot different from that of the Heinz tin. Of course it still has a picture of some beans on the front but instead of the Heinz green label Branston's is silver and looks just as good as its rival.

The beans inside the tin look pretty much the same as Heinz with the thick red/orange sauce and the tin full to the top with beans and juice. The smell again is practically the same only Branston's beans seem to have a slightly more herb like aroma coming off them.

The taste however is rather different and one I have now grown to really like. At first the taste was plainly obvious and my first thoughts were “These are nothing like baked beans should be”. The sauce they were in seemed stronger and thicker in comparison to Heinz and this took a little getting used to. The beans themselves however were of the same texture as Heinz whereas when I have tried Tesco Saver Baked Beans the texture of these seemed a lot harder than Heinz and the sauce was totally disgusting!

Branston Beans are certainly up there at the top of the bean chart I am not sure if I can say they are better than Heinz but they are honestly tasty. They are generally cheaper than Heinz too and can be found on special offer a lot more.

I think to conclude I would say these Branston Baked beans come a very close second to the Heinz variety. They have a lot going for them in the fact that they are cheaper and have a different taste that is richer and stronger than the Heinz variety but I cannot somehow bring myself to say they are better than Heinz. I think having grown up eating the Heinz Variety means that my pallet has become accustomed to them therefore I feel more loyal to them as a brand and as a taste.

Branson Beans are tasty cheap and versatile as more beans are. I think a five star rating can be given easily and I will most certainly continue to buy them when they are on special offer! HIGH recommendation.

Many thanks for taking the time to read.

I do hope this has been of some help/interest to you.
