Jupiter 547GL Soprano Sax (Straight)
Review of Jupiter 547GL Bb Soprano Saxophone by poooookie

Advantages: Fairly Cheap and easy to play - a great first soprano
Disadvantages: Intonation is slightly "dodgey", especially on the high notes, and you don't get the depth of tone or quality of sound that you would get from a more expensive sax (eg a Selmer). Supplied in a stupidly large case!

...of this sax is that Jupiter choose to supply this sax in a hard case with a carrying handle which is stupidly large - its almost the size of an alto case!! The only advantage of this is that I can fit my alto stand, soprano stand, clarinet stand, and a music stand in the case, as well as the cleaning equipment supplied with the sax (a standard pull-through and polisher.) One of the other problems I've encountered with this sax is that the bottom ... Read review

Sax
Review of Jupiter Alto Saxophones by aimeewilson

Advantages: Good quality, enjoyable
Disadvantages: A little pricey

...dad brought me a new Jupiter saxophone for £500, you had 2 options you could rent it and see whether you wanted to but it after a year playing or you could buy a saxophone for £500 and after a year if you don't want to play anymore then you they would take the sax back and you would receive some money back but not the full amount you payed. My dad chose to buy me a saxophone for my birthday and I started having lessons when I went back to school. ...
...and I will be taking my grade 3 in June next year. I have learnt lots of scales and appregios, many pieces out of books such as: Practise Sessions by Peter Wastall and Session Times also by Peter Wastall and recently my teacher has been teaching me improvisation which is very interesting! I love Jazz but I haven't done much of it yet but hopefully I will learn get to in the future! ... Read review

Couldn't want for a better trumpet
Review of Jupiter STR 600 by mokee

Advantages: Great trumpet at a great price
Disadvantages: Quality not as good as more expensive makes

My parents bought me my Jupiter trumpet in about 1988 I believe, and I honestly couldn't ask for a better trumpet. I had been playing a cornet for about ten years but then convinced my parents that I'd much prefer a trumpet, and they fell for it. I had until that point forsaken my cornet in favour of my sisters Yamaha trumpet, which she had decided she wanted back. Although I would say that the Yamaha was probably a better quality instrument it was ...
...reason I would recommend the Jupiter as the ideal trumpet for a beginner. The Jupiter has a really good tone and is very easy to play and maintain, I haven't used mine for well over a year but I just took it out of it's case a couple of minutes ago and the valves hadn't even seized up. I believe that music is unfortunately much overlooked in the school curriculum nowadays, which is a real shame as learning a musical instrument vastly enhances the ... Read review

Does not cramp my style at all.
Review of Buffet Crampon Dynaction Alto Saxophone by paulhanton

Advantages: Great sound, easy player.
Disadvantages: Expensive, hard to find parts.

...Selmer (balanced action) and a Buffet Crampon Dynaction. **********The Buffet Crampon Dynaction********** Surprisingly I like the Buffet Crampon better; it had a much richer sound, was 'heavier', nicer colour, the key spread, especially the lower keys was a better fit, all in all I got quite excited. At this point I was not aware of the cost, age or overall condition of the instrument, but it 'felt right'. When I say it felt right I mean; it is ...
...was about this horn. Buffet Crampon are better known for their clarinets than saxophones, yet up until the 70's certainly they were of comparable quality, and sound as Selmer's, and were made in a factory just down the road. In fact I have an original Selmer case which my sax came in. My sax is called Dolly, some people do not christen their saxophones, I do. She was 'finished' on January the 7th 1956, which makes her just over 52 years old. She ... Read review

Five Silver Stars for this Harp
Review of Hohner Silver Star C Harmonica by JeffFromPoole

Advantages: Great price and value, top quality instrument
Disadvantages: None

...out in 1984 on a Hohner C Blues Harp I found what I was looking for. It is a basic twelve hole harmonica that has stood the test of time. Before Christmas I looked at my old harp and decided that it might be time for it to go into partial retirement. Having spent about £24 on it and played it thousands of times it was looking a bit battered and scratched. It still plays beautifully, no dead reeds, fantastic tone so when I went looking for the next ...
...in bright chrome and has Hohner International embossed on one side and Silver Star on the other. The back of the comb has "HOHNER" printed in silver on the back. It comes it a rigid ABS plastic case to protect it, which is a definite improvement on the soft vinyl case that the blues harp lives in. The sound? Well, I'm still playing the Blues Harp, the tone and the ability to bend the notes remains excellent, the Silver Star can bend, but not quite ... Read review
