robheath
Advantages: A fine Oboe very good value for money
Disadvantages: none
...played on french instruments, but the Yamaha Oboe offers a real alternative. This oboe has a fine tone across the whole range with good intonation. The finnish on the keys is very good, and they have a nice feel to them in the playing. I am using this instument to teach with and play profesionally.I have conpared this instrument to the Howarth S20 and S40 and feel it has a more rounded and full tone the 3rd octave key is a nice touch. To conclude I ...

Yamaha Silver YS62 Alto Saxophone
Review of Yamaha Alto Saxophones by

Advantages: Beauty and Sound
Disadvantages: None
Yamaha Alto Saxophone YS62 Silver Finish
Bought new recently plays beautifully, easy top notes with clear sound, good low notes although for me the low note L.H. 5 finger will need work to get smooth transitions between notes. Quite a bright tone which suits me. Silver finish adds to the price but to me impresses more than the slightly yellow appearance of the gold one. Sturdy case although I have reverted to my Gig bag as the sturdy case is quite ...

Which idiot put sax in the brass? Its WOODWIND!
Review of Jupiter Alto Saxophones by
alico
Advantages: Beautiful sounding. wonderful instrument
Disadvantages: None
My Jupiter saxaphone is my Joy in life. I love it possibly more than i love my parents. Well ok maybe not to that extent but it is my favourite instrument i own (i also own flute, piano, several guitars) I payed only £350 for my stunner of a saxaphone, it was that cheap because my brother worked in a music shop and we got a third off the price. Bargain! It is so beautiful. The sounds quality is beautiful and it plays with a fantastic sound (obviously ... ...it for my birthday and i started having lessons about a year ago and i am just about to take my grade 4.
For begginers to learn to play the saxaphone abracadabra is the best book to learn from although i quickly progressed already being a flautist and i found a love for jazz music. James Rae style workout is an awesome book and i love the pieces it gives you to play for exams.
Having just gone from flautist to saxaphonist i found the mouth shapes ...

Elkhart 100TH Eb Tenor (Alto) Horn
Review of Elkhart 100TH Series Eb Tenor Horn by
Lumbricus
Advantages: Build quality, appearance and tone. Excellent soft case.
Disadvantages: Very minor intonation issues in the upper register.
For the amazing price of this instrument (I paid around the £150 mark) it is an excellent horn for a player of beginner or intermediate standard. It is beautifully proportioned in the traditional saxhorn style - far more appealing to my eye than the open wrap design of many cheaper models.
This horn plays with a lovely tone, perhaps with a few minor intonation issues in the higher register, but the notes can be lipped into shape. The tuning slide ... ...likely contributor to any imperfections.
The corrosion-resistant rose brass leadpipe, excellent lacquer finish and robust stays make this horn a must for anyone seeking a real bargain. You can find virtually identical horns made in Taiwan/China and marketed under a number of brand names for £100 or £200 more! Additionally, the mouthpiece supplied is a good match for the horn's bore etc. The soft case provided is excellent and probably worth £60 ...

Does not cramp my style at all.
Review of Buffet Crampon Dynaction Alto Saxophone by
paulhanton
Advantages: Great sound, easy player.
Disadvantages: Expensive, hard to find parts.
...Selmer (balanced action) and a Buffet Crampon Dynaction. **********The Buffet Crampon Dynaction**********
Surprisingly I like the Buffet Crampon better; it had a much richer sound, was 'heavier', nicer colour, the key spread, especially the lower keys was a better fit, all in all I got quite excited. At this point I was not aware of the cost, age or overall condition of the instrument, but it 'felt right'. When I say it felt right I mean; it is ... ...was about this horn.
Buffet Crampon are better known for their clarinets than saxophones, yet up until the 70's certainly they were of comparable quality, and sound as Selmer's, and were made in a factory just down the road. In fact I have an original Selmer case which my sax came in.
My sax is called Dolly, some people do not christen their saxophones, I do. She was 'finished' on January the 7th 1956, which makes her just over 52 years old. She ...
