I bought mine for £54.99 from Argos. I found it in Boots for £59.99 but I’m not sure if you can get it any cheaper on the internet. I think it’s quite expensive so it might be worth shopping around.

Silk.epil Epilator
2 x epilator heads
Massaging rollers clip
EfficiencyPro clip
Cleaning brush
Shaver head
A little bag to keep it all in more
I find shaving my legs one of the most annoying beauty regimes we do. It takes ages, it’s messy and my legs are usually stubbly again within a day or two. Not only this but I also suffer with eczema so shaving really irritates my legs. I’ve tried waxing but found it very painful and as my hair is hair is quite fine it left patches that then had to be shaved - pointless! Despite all this I still couldn’t bring myself to use an epilator. Waxing was bad enough so the thought of having the hairs plucked out individually would bring tears to my eyes.
Summer is coming and I really want to be able to get my legs out (shaving rash free). I’d read a few reviews on Ciao that said that epilators aren’t as painful as you’d think, so I took the plunge and decided to buy one. I wanted to buy it asap before I changed my mind and as Argos had the biggest selecting, that’s where I headed. Unfortunately a bigger selection doesn’t mean they’re all in stock. Not being able to get the one I wanted I opted for the slightly more expensive Braun Silk.epil Xelle.

***The Package*** It comes in a dark pink box, which on the front shows a picture of the epilator/shaver head, a lady’s silky smooth legs and says new technology and Premium *****. The side shows the contents and the back, a short description of the product in 6 different languages.
***The Contents*** Silk.epil Epilator 2 x epilator heads Massaging rollers clip EfficiencyPro clip Cleaning brush Shaver head A little bag to keep it all in A gel pack with cooling glove 12V plug adaptor 2 instruction manuals (1 for the epilator and 1for using the shaver attachment) A small card showing pictures of what each attachment is used for
***The Product*** The epilator itself is a little bigger than the palm of my hand and feels quite lightweight. It is blue and white in colour. The front has the on switch. This has 2 speed settings (soft and optimal) and a light that will shine onto your leg. On each side of the epilator is a release button to change attachments. The epilator heads have different amount of tweezers. One is for beginners and the other, with lots more tweezers, for more experienced users. The user manuals are quite straight forward, giving simple instructions on using and cleaning the epilator. The instructions are in a whopping 12 different languages.
***Using*** If you are a beginner it is recommended that you use the starter head (the one with less tweezers) with the massaging roller clip on the soft speed setting. Make sure your skin is dry and free from any oils or moisturisers. Using the other hand you pull the skin tight and glide the epilator up the leg at a 90 degree angle in the opposite direction of the hair growth. If the skin is becoming irritated apply the cooling pad between each glide. (The pad will need to be cooled in the freezer before hand). Once your skin has become used to the epilator you can use the more intense head with the efficiency clip and of course increase the speed setting.
***My Experience*** Ok so the starter head is on and cooling pad at the ready. I pull my skin taught and…….ouch, ouch, ouch, ouch. Oh my that is painful! I know different people have different pain thresholds but I really don’t know how anyone can say that’s painless. Anyway, continue I must. I manage to do both legs (only the bottom half) using the cooling pad to ease the stinging. At the end of it my legs resemble a plucked chicken but I am satisfied that my legs are quite smooth. The tingling goes down and my legs are back to normal with a couple of hours.
As the hairs grow through at different rates I need to epilate again in a couple of days to get any new hairs coming through. I have to do this every couple of days for a week until all the new hairs growing through have gone. I use the starter head for the first few times. Each time I epilate it gets less painful and is now just a tingling sensation. The little light is great. It shines down on my leg and shows up all the hairs so I don’t leave any patches. My legs are smooth and there’s no irritation to my eczema.
My legs are now used to the epilator so I decide to move onto the more intense head and the efficiency clip. This gets a lot closer to the skin so it starts to hurt again but it quickly fades. I’ve tried to use it on my armpits and bikini line but this is a bit too much for me. I’ll continue to shave the sensitive areas until I can pluck up the courage to epilate there.
The epilator is easy to clean. Once you un attach the clip it is easy to brush away any hairs that have got caught up.
I haven’t used the shaver head yet. As my legs have been so smooth I haven’t felt the need to.
***Recommendation*** I would definitely recommend this product to other people. Although it hurts like hell the first few times you use it you do get used to it. I suppose its like plucking your eyebrows. It hurts the first time but now I’ve been doing it so long I don’t even feel it. It is an expensive purchase but if you no longer have to buy razors and shaving gel then over time it works out worth while.
Advantages: Spotlight for seeing little hairs Disadvantages: slightly painful
I had the old Braun silk-epil since about 1999 and when it gave up the ghost I started shaving again. After a couple of months I noticed that I was hairier than usual and got really annoyed at having to shave every couple of days so decided to invest in another of Braun's epilators.
I must admit that this particular model comes with lots of accessories (shaving head, small/starter epilator head, intermediate epilator head with massager, advanced ... ...excessive but if you are new to epilating I can see the advantage in being able to get used to using one by building up in stages.
Having come from already using an epilator but having shaved for a couple of months, I used the 40 tweezer head with the intermediate massager heads and found it most comfotable to use especially when compared to my old epilator which had just the standard head and no attachments for making it's use more comfortable. ...

Advantages: Gets rid of hairs for longer, Disadvantages: loud, have to go over area a few times
I find shaving in the shower hard and as a result don't shave my legs very often which can be a problem if you suddenly decide to wear a dress or want to go swimming (which I did for a few minutes and then got too lazy). After christmas I searched the internet for epilators in the sale and found this one for £29.99 on amazon.co.uk.
The set arrives with the following contents:
A silver case to carry everything
An ice pack and silver case to put ... ...other- you rub this on the place you plan to epilate before and after to numb the pain.
The epilator- which is about 8cm by 11cm in size and a nice white a blue colour(s).
There are two different heads (one starter head with less metal teeth in it).
A massaging head, and an efficiency head (to go over your body easier).
A brush to clean out the heads.
A plug- the epilator is powered by the mains and no option for battries.
A razor head with ...

Advantages: Effective, long-lasting Disadvantages: can be a long process
I bought the Braun Silk Epil X'elle 5685, as I'd just about had enough of the tedious chore of waxing, and the stubbly effects left by shaving, plus my friend had been raving about epliation ever since she bought hers last year. I'd avoided it previously as they do look like instruments of medieval torture, but I finally gave in (after being nudged by the half price sale in Boots). I purchased mine for £36.99, as oppsoed to the original tag of £69.99. ... ...Also to soften the pinch, Braun has provided an ice pack which you insert into a glove, to apply cold pressure before you begin, and this really does help. Oh, and not to mention a handy light which highlights even the finest hairs. The only slight downside is that it can be rather slow, and one area needs going over several times to get rid of all those pesky hairs. overall, I would recommend the Silk epile, as in the long run you save a packet ...

Advantages: Quick and easy to use Disadvantages: Painful to start with
I bought myself one of these epilators after joining my local gym and swimming pool. I was sick to death of shaving and waxing and thought there must be an easier way!! This is definately it!!
You get an ice pack which i would recommend using for the first few times as i did find it alot more painful than waxing and it is easier, and less messy to use.
This epilator also has a handy light which lights up the area you are epilating so you can see ... ...i used the beginner head as recommended but i must admit i found the forty tweezer head more effective and actually less painful to use. I think the secret is to keep your skin as tight as possible in the area you are doing basically same principle as waxing. The tighter the skin the less painful the process.
Also you are activley encouraged to moisturise after epilation so this will reduce reddining and no more nasty smells from those hair removal ...
