After reading all of the rave reviews about this product: "Virtually Painless", "No Rash!", "Legs Smooth and Silky for Longer", etc. I decided to buy one for myself as I was sick and tired of shaving.
When my Braun Silk-Epil arrived I was over-joyed and could not wait to test the wonders of it's epilating loveliness...
It was slightly painful at first, until my leg when numb. Actually it was more of a discomfort that a real "pain".
After epilating for more than a few minutes raised red bumps appeared on my legs, I believe they were caused by the agitation to my skin from the plucking of the hairs. My legs were quite itchy because of the red bumps.
My legs did not feel, "Silky Smooth" when I had finished, but I decided that there must have been a few hairs on my legs that were too short to be caught by the epilating heads yet... so I resolved to re-epilate in a weeks time.
Over the week I exfoliated my legs (as suggested in the manual) however, as time went on, I was very anxious to see that the hairs on my legs were growing in as they grew back.
My legs were itchy and sore for weeks and I had to dig the ingrown hairs out of my legs. Thankfully everything is now back to normal, I have only used the Braun Silk-Epil twice (once to pluck, the other to shave) and I vow never to use it again.
My advice is this:
If you suffer from sensitive skin, if you have ever had ingrowing hair on your legs before (even just the odd one) after shaving or have any other skin condition DO NOT USE THIS PRODUCT I implore you!
Obviously I am now stuck with a product that I will: a) Never use again and b) Can't return to the store.

After all these years I invested in an epilator. I always thought it would hurt as everyone I knew had said it was.
When I opened my product it looked scarey. I plugged it into the mains, it has a long wire which made it easier. I was sweating with fear at the noise before even trying. I thought no pain no gain and used the expert head first as there are two different head one for beginners. It is ... ...hair. After the initial pain which was not bad the massagers took the pain away. It just felt like a sharp tingle. It can be a little more sharp round the ankle but I got over it. This is better than waxing as that is definitly more painfull and for anyone who wants to make it less scratchy there is an ice pack for the more frightened first time buyers. I had never thought of using an epilator (mostly due to hearing how painful it is!!) until I saw it advertised in a magazine so I decided to stop being a wimp and to give it a go!
I was slightly put off by the noise and the speed of the rollers spinning however when I plucked up the courage I was very surprised by how little the pain was! This has a cooling pack and the rollers "massage" as you go which help this be less painful than I originally ... ...gradually worked my way up to the expert which cuts the time in half due to have double the amount of tweezers which is slightly more painful but quicker! There is an additional head you can use which is designed for under arms and bikini lines (I haven't plucked up the courage to use this yet!)
There is also a "smart light" which comes on as soon as the epilator is switched on. This high lights the hairs which you may have missed or areas which ...
