Electric toothbrushes have been around for a while now, with a number of models available. From experience I have found some to be very poor and offer little advantages over a manual toothbrush, whilst others very good and really felt the difference. My previous toothbrush broke, so it was time to get a new one.

After shopping around, I decided to get one of the 'top of the range' models and see what really sets them apart. I purchased the 9500 DLX. The RRP of this toothbrush is very high at over £160, but I looked around and found it for £70 brand new on ebay so went for it.

The toothbrush certainly looks the part, with a digital display and smart styling, and comes with 2 brush heads - the regular 'floss action' head, and another 'probrite' one to help whiten teeth. A travel case and the charger. are also included The charging base has a section to hold spare brush heads and can store 4 away.

The manual is comprehensive, and complete with illustrations to explain how to use the toothbrush and what the brushing modes are, and the toothbrush could not be easier to use - there are only 2 buttons - one to start or stop the brush, and the other to change the brushing method (Normal, Soft brush, Massage, Polish). The digital display on the toothbrush tells you what mode you are using with nice animated text and pictures.

The digital display also tells you when the brush head needs to be replaced (I have not had mine long enough yet so am just going on the manual here) so you shouldnt have any excuse for forgetting now!

The toothbrush also has a built in timer that ensures you brush for the reccomended 2 minutes and evenly all over. After 30 seconds It pulsates the brushing head for a couple of seconds to let you know to move on to the next section of your mouth. There is also a counter on the digital display that shows how long you have been brushing. A pressure sensor is contained in the brush so that you do not press to hard and hurt your teeth or gums.

After using this toothbrush you can really feel the difference, and although the initial outlay is not cheap, the brush heads are cheaper than others so running costs will be lower. If you have not used an electric toothbrush before then you will never want to go back to a manual toothbrush again, and even as a previous user of electric toothbrushes I have been surprised by the improvements on my previous model (Braun 3D Excel).

I reccomend this toothbrush to anyone considering a new electric toothbrush, but it's definately worth shopping around if you can get for a cheaper price like I did!
