Advantages cordless, long lasting, good quality, good results

Disadvantages water reservoir is a bit small

Well, a few years ago, my friend kindly bought me the Braun c20s as a birthday gift. Since it's lasted me so well, I thought I'd better review it!

A few months ago, my sister moved away and wanted one of her own - I didn't know if it would still be available, but phew! it is - it's now called the Braun smoothstyler - the same thing but probably slightly different looking, and possibly improved.

What you get

The instructions (description, instructions for inserting or changing the energy cell, filling the water reservoir for the steam function, switching it on and tips and instructions for styling and steaming). I like the fact that the instructions have diagrams with text underneath - it's easier to understand.

A brush attachment

The styler

A plastic cover that clips over the styler

2 energy cells (I'm glad they don't make you buy them separately)

The Perks

It's cordless - I've used it on the go quite a few times with no disasters (other than people in the car being elbowed in the face!)

It's not bulky or heavy so if you had to carry it in a bag, it wouldn't break your arm (I'm talking about a large bag or a carrier bag here - it's not that small!)

It has a cover, so you don't have to worry about burning yourself after you've finished using it.

It has a brush attachment, which increases the styling possibilities.

The steam function helps to set hair in its place.

The energy cell refills available now (about £3.99) are still compatible with this model - so you don't have to worry about it long term. So far, I've only had to refill it twice (I think) - and that's with a few different people using it!

What have I used it for

Technically, this can be used for creating curls, waves and straightening the hair. Personally, I wouldn't use it to straighten as it would take aaaaaaaaaages.

I have really long, thick hair, which is poker straight, but this still managed to create nice curls or waves. I've also used it with the brush attachment to curl the ends of my hair underneath, for a sleek look, or to give my hair the once over, after straightening with straighteners.

Some friendly advice

You may have to refill the water reservoir a couple of tmes while using.

It sometimes takes a couple of minutes to heat up - if it doesn't heat up, you may not have switched it on properly (speaking from experience here!)

I personally wouldn't use this every day, as it would damage my hair, and it would need quite afew refills. For me, it's perfect for occasional use.

Watch your fingers - if you catch them on this when it's hot, it can be really painful!

Prices vary from about £15 to £30 - shop around!
