Advantages: Curl hair anywhere, does not need electricity. Disadvantages: Can cause dry hair/ damage if used too often.

My old tongs were Braun which I bought when we went on a canal holiday a few years ago, and as I still had some energy cells I decided to go for another Braun to save wasting these.
The choice is absolutely amazing, but all I wanted was a gas tong to give a quick curl to my hair in the morning or if it needed it before going out after work. I decided against one which had a water chamber and went for the bargain priced one which ... ...plus I had so many points it was FREE!
*SIZE*
Size is important! Especially, if you want to pop it in your handbag. It has a 3.5 cm diameter and is normally 22cm. in length, but this is a clever little number and they provide you with a smaller cell and end piece and so it only measures 18cm. Very useful to tong your hair at a wedding if your hair has been flattened by wearing a hat!

The choice is absolutely amazing, but all I wanted was a gas tong to give a quick curl to my hair in the morning or if it needed it before going out after work. I decided against one which had a water chamber and went for the bargain priced one which was on offer in Boots – even cheaper than Argos, plus I had so many points it was FREE!

*ENERGY CELLS*
The little cell is 5cm long and wouldn’t last for very long but great for the purpose intended. The larger cell is 8.5 cm. I buy mine at the pharmacy where I work and get a discount! Some shops sell them at £2.19 each. But they are available at Argos in a pack of four costing £7.50, which it says lasts 10 weeks of average use. Mine last longer, but it depends how much hair you have and how often you use them. I haven’t seen the mini cells anywhere to get a price. These are pressurised and should not be stored in direct sunlight or high temperatures – so don’t keep it on the car dashboard, just in case the sun does shine!
*INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE*
Before use the energy cell must be fitted. The switch is set at “0” and the cap end is removed. The energy cell is inserted, it has an arrow showing the correct direction and must be pushed right in. Replace the cap end and turn it in the opposite direction to the little arrow so it clicks shut. If using the small cell, the plastic cover can be removed and put on the handle to make it a couple of cm longer. Useful too if you are in a changing room/ public toilet you don’t have to lay it down. It is designed with a hole at the end of the cap so you can check when the cell is empty and needs changing. Another good thing it can be changed even when there is still some gas in, if for instance you are going on holiday you can start with a new cell, and finish off the old one at a later date.
To turn the gas on there is a little cerise pink switch, which is slid to “1”, then wait 5 seconds before pulling the grey coloured started back so you hear a little click. I am a bit impatient and tend to do it too soon so have to click again! You can see it lit up inside so know when it has lit properly. There are two dots left and right of a red mark in the centre of the tong which show when it is ready for action. The styler heats up within a minute and has a thermostat to keep it at the right temperature.
When you have finished, turn the switch to the “0” position. Replace the protective cover over the styler, as it is heat resistant it can be replaced straight away. The handle/ cover for the cell is a pale grey and the brush a darker grey
*CHOICE OF CURLS*
There is a brush styler for softer curls and volume, or this can be clicked off, by pressing a button at the end of the barrel and tighter curls achieved by using the narrow ceramic coated barrel. According to the box it has “Opti-style technology” to ensure the ideal styling temperature for most effective styling.
*CLEANING*
The styler must be cold and switched off, and can be wiped with a damp cloth. I find a slight build up occurs on the ceramic coated plates, if I use it when I’ve hair spray on my hair, but it does wipe off. The brush piece can be removed and washed/ scrubbed in warm soapy water and when dry replaced.
*WARNING*
The leaflet has a caution piece of information. If using aerosol hairspray allow 5 minutes before igniting the styler to let the vapours disperse, and not to use spray when it is lit. When igniting ensure it is held away from hair, face and clothing. Care should be taken not to let the hot barrel touch the skin – I burned my ear once, so I look what I’m doing now! It should only be used on dry hair.
*AIR TRAVEL*
You are allowed to take one item with you. The protective cover should be in place, as it can’t be accidentally switched on when the cover is on. Extra energy cells are not allowed, so I always insert a new one which I find last longer than my holiday. Depending on the airline it can be packed in your case now, or taken as hand luggage, it is always worth checking.
I am very pleased with my new tongs which I have had a few months now, they heat up quickly and I can do my hair within a few minutes. My curls seem to last better than with the old electric one I used when my other broke. Certainly I can recommend these, when I had my first one I was quite frightened by the loud bang on ignition this is less violent for those of a nervous disposition!
Advantages: Easy to use, pack and does the job Disadvantages: You have to remember to buy replacement cartridges
I love my Braun style and go, it is so verstaile and easy to use.
it is small enough to carry in a bag or suitcase- indeed I never go without my style'n go.
This hair styler relies on gas cartridges to heat the curling tongs/ brush.
It is simple to use, just place the cartridge into the base, click into place and youare ready to go.
To switch on- all you need to do is slide the 'on' button from the '0' setting to the '1' setting, you then click ... ...few seconds for the item to heat up and you are ready to go!
THis styler can be used with the brush attatchment or the tongs, Yyou can find this by sliding the brush attatchment off the tongs. You may need to depress the catch to release this.
I tend to use the brush attatchment most of the time as this is what styles my hair best. I have shoulder length hair and very difficult to hold hair.
You can get some lovely curls and waves of a medium ...

Advantages: quick, easy to use, light weight, no trailing flex Disadvantages: Cost of cartridges
Have used these Braun stylers for about 20 years and always found them excellent - easy to use , they do what they say they do and the barrel is easy to clean when it becomes sticky with styling product .
They are easy to carry about and have a safety cover which holds the 'off' button in place and is heat-proof. They are light weight to use and have the advantage of no trailing wire as with electricty powered tongs.
I find that these tongs last ... ...I have is that up to about 1O years ago you could refill them with a can of lighter fuel, which was obviously much cheaper, but I suppose Braun thought about that and decided it was better for THEM if they sold disposable cartridges, which, I think are vastly over-priced. ...
