Advantages Easy to use, cheap to buy appliance, convenient
Disadvantages Refills could prove expensive
I was recently advised by my dentist to use a dental pick to help in cleaning my gums as I was starting to suffer from a receding gum condition. I raced straight to the chemists and saw the Humming Bird on the shelf and decided to give it a try.The Humming Bird consists of a small base unit into which you insert either a flosser unit or a plastic dental pick. A few of each are included in the base unit pack to get you started. I was a little wary of the flosser at first, having found manual flossing to be rather awkward and unsuccessful. However the Humming Bird makes it really easy. The instructions provided are first class and within seconds I was flossing my teeth like a veteran. The same is also true of the dental pick although I found it was still a little difficult to clean my back teeth with either the flosser or the pick, but eventually I found a combination of flossing my front teeth and using the pick on my back teeth to be the best combination.
In summary I would heartily recommend the Humming Bird as being easy to use, effective and inexpensive to buy the base unit. My only reservation is the cost of buying replacement flossers and picks. These seem to be rather expensive in relation to the cost of the base unit, but still cheaper (and less painful) than massive amounts of dental work!
