This wonderful hand blender comes in the distinctive Braun turquoise blue and white cardboard packaging with pictures of the blender and descriptions in half a dozen or more different languages. There is an instruction book which at first glance looks impressive until you realise there is only a couple of instruction paragraphs in English and the rest is simply repeating those instructions in 20 (yes I counted) languages. This blender comes with a two year guarantee which is subject to the usual caveats of improper use or unauthorised repairs. Whilst reading the small print, for the purposes of this review, I discovered my blender was made in Poland and to determine the year of manufacture there is a 3 digit production code stamped on the handle. The first digit of the production code refers to the last digit of the year of manufacture and the next two digits refer to the calendar week of that year. Mine has the number 712. So it was manufactured in week twelve of 2007. Clever stuff!
The blender itself comes in two working parts which simply twist (about a ¼ turn) and click together for use.
The handle part houses the 450 watt motor which I think is reasonably quiet when running. I did notice when flicking through the instruction booklet that in some countries the motor is only 400 watts, I'm not sure why this should be. From the top of the handle runs the power cord which is about 4' long so you should always be within reach of a plug socket. The top part has a blue anti-slip soft grip handle with two press buttons for your choice of speed. The buttons need to be kept depressed for the motor to run which allows you to use a pulse action or one big blitz, which ever you prefer. I must admit I only ever use the faster speed, but may be that is just me always in a rush to get things done. This part of the blender is easy to wipe clean with a damp cloth but for obvious reasons must not be immersed in water or put under a running tap.
The bottom half of the Braun Multiquick blender is the action part. It is a white plastic shaft with a single metal blade at the end. The blade is housed in a plastic cup with a fluted edge which is the anti-splash shield. This is supposed to ensure the food stays in the bowl. I tend to find though if I tilt it too much I cover myself, anyone near me and the hob or work surface with splatters - maybe that is when I should be using the slower speed? The blender shaft is about 8" long so you can plunge it into a deep container, if desired, without submerging the motor part. Once you have finished your blending the two halves just twist apart and the blade section is very easy to clean if you immediately swish it in a bowl of warm soapy water. There are no awkward nooks and crannies to clog up or are difficult to get to. You can of course put it in the dishwasher if you prefer.
This hand blender comes with a calibrated 600ml plastic beaker which is quite a useful size and can also go in the dishwasher, although not in the microwave. There are no other attachments or blades available for this blender.
I do have a big (and rather expensive) food processor but it always seems to need so much setting up, cleaning afterwards and it takes up loads of space in a cupboard. The beauty of this hand blender is that it is quick and easy to assemble and you can limit the washing up by using it in what ever bowl or saucepan you are already using. For example to make a fruit purée just simmer your fruit in a small saucepan, when it's soft blend with the Braun Multiquick blender, detach and rinse the blade in some soapy water and the job is done with no extra washing up. I wish I had one of these when I was making baby foods, it is absolutely ideal. Another plus is that it takes hardly any space to store in the kitchen. It is light and comfortable to use and very versatile. It can be used to make smoothies (although it is best if the fruit is cut into chunks first), soups, sauces, pancake batter, chopping nuts, puréed baby food… the list is endless. The only thing I won't be repeating is mashing potatoes - they went rather gloopy!
It cost me £19.99 in Argos and is sure to be available in all the usual retail stores. I see it is currently the same price on Amazon.
I am so pleased with this I wish I had bought one years ago.
Advantages: excellent design, easy to use Disadvantages: could have a longer flex and a larger chopping bowl
...blender was very sturdy. The Braun chopper bowl does however have a non-slip base to make it safer.
I bought mine for £19.44 at Asda, although, according to Ciao it is £2 cheaper on Amazon.
At under £20 I think it is good value for money and I don't recommend false economy (like mine!) if you are looking for a quality product for regular use.
It even has a 2 year manufacturer's guarantee, so it should last longer than its predecessors! ...

Advantages: Lightweight - easy to clean Disadvantages: I need a bigger freezer
...would not be without my Braun Hand Blender.
Two speeds and a twist apart blade and housing that makes cleaning it a doddle!(even dishwasher safe). It is lightweight and ready to whisk at the touch of a rubber covered button, and it hangs on the wall ready for action - unlike the food processor that sits in its box in the cupboard because theres no room on the worktop!
Priced at around £19 with a motor raing of 400W it makes whisking so easy - the ... ...you go mad with your Braun blender - start slow until its a smooth mix adding the milk as you go, until a batter mix is achieved, then add a spoonful of cold water and mix again.
When oven reaches temperature, place yorkshire pudding tins in the oven with a little vegetable oil in each.
When the oil is hot pour two tablespoons of batter in each tin and cook for around 20 minutes (less for fan oven).
Result superb little puds - turn them onto a ...

Advantages: Good design, high power, easy to clean, blade and stem are dishwasherproof Disadvantages: Fragile beaker
When both my old Braun Blenders broke within a couple of weeks I worked out how much use they had had in their lifetime. One was over 10 years old, the other was about 8 years old. bought when I first met my husband and we had two homes for a few years. The older blenders did not take apart to wash. Consequently, I assume, food debris worked up into the motor and clogged it, eventually burning out the motor. I originally looked at the much more sophisticated ... ...unknown cheaper brands. However the Braun MR4000 has the highest rated motor (400W) which was the deciding factor. Blending root veg. to make soup is a frequent task for me and makes the motor work hard.
With this blender, the blade and housing come right off for washing, with just a twist, so no problems for arthritic hands (which I will probably have in a year or two!). The instructions say this part is dishwasher safe. The parts click simply ...

Advantages: Easy to use, easy to clean, wall mounted storage Disadvantages: Small chopping container
If you have a penchant for smoothies or are weaning a baby with fruit and vegetable purees then this is the perfect gadget for you. My fiancee bought this for me last year whilst I was pregnant and craving thick creamy smoothies packed full of fruity loveliness. The tall plastic container is perfect for such a task and using the wand it can turn pretty much any known food stuff into a smooth luscious liquid. The design is such that all contents of ... ...without any spray covering your kitchen.
The blender itself has two speed settings so you can slowly pulse or go full throttle for maximum effect. It comes with two attachments, firstly the wand as previously described and then secondly a chopping blade and container when your desired effect is something thicker than a liquid.
The chopping container is small but is perfect for making pesto or small quantities of baby puree. All parts are easily ...

Advantages: Very easy to clean, multi-functional, perfect for making baby food Disadvantages: Cable a bit short
My Mum got this for me when I wanted a hand-blender after my child was born. This blender is great! I use the mixing bowl to turn granulated sugar into castor or icing sugar for baking and it's works a treat. The blending part is invaluable with a young baby and is now being used for No 3. You can alter how blended you would like the baby food to be by length of time. It is very easy to wash (a big plus for me as many blenders are awful). It also ...

**The Blender**
I bought the BraunMR4000 from Argos for £19.45. It's lightweight and made of plastic. The bottom half which houses the blade is detachable and it has two speeds. It's designed in to reduce splashing too. You also get a 600ml beaker with lid to do your blending in. It also has a soft grip section so if you're doing a lot of bledning all in one go it's not uncomfortable to hold.
**The controls**
This is so simple to use. All you have to do is plug it in and press one of the two buttons depending on whether you want high or low speed blending. There's nothing more to it than that.
**Cleaning**
Th fact the bottom half is detachable makes this so easy to clean. You literally twist it off and clean the blender mechanism. You don't put the electrical part anywhere near the water. And the bottom section is even ...
