THE BRAUN ORAL-B 3D EXCEL PULSATING TOOTHBRUSH
So why do I think this is the best brush in the world? I'll tell you. Before I bought this brush I was using the InterPlak electric toothbrush recommended by a dentist 10 years ago and I have to admit, that was the best brush available at that time. It had 12 sets of bristle groups that rotated 8000 times a minute in a head the same size as a standard manual toothbrush. That ... ...a round head, 12 mm in diameter with 26 bristle clusters that move in-and-out 40,000 times per minute reaching deep to loosen plaque whilst simultaneously moving side-to-side 7,600 times per minute to whisk away the plaque. The 3D Excel brushing action cleans by combining two distinct motions - pulsations and oscillations, to loosen and sweep away plaque. Now that's why they call it the Excel!
The Oral-B 3D Excel Pulsating Toothbrush is undoubtedly the most powerful oral stimulator available on this planet but before I tell you why I think it is the best brush in the world, I am going to tell you that using an electric toothbrush of this calibre alone is NOT the complete answer to dental hygiene.
Sorry for all those people who have either bought an electric toothbrush or are about to for the sole reason that they describe themselves as being lazy - an electric toothbrush is not good enough! Of course you may not wish to have healthy teeth until the day you die but for those that do....read on.
I know many people are afraid of the dentist and lots are dragged in only when they are in agony because they have left it too late. I used to be that way many years ago and I could tell you several stories about the butchers I have met under the guise of being a dentist, but I won't - I want you to feel at ease when the word 'Dentistry' is mentioned.
WHY AN ELECTRIC TOOTHBRUSH ALONE IS INADEQUATE The manufacturers of all electric toothbrushes, including the super duper 3D Excel, state that they 'help remove significantly more plaque than a manual toothbrush'. No manufacturer states that their brush removes ALL plaque and, as plaque is the main cause of gum disease, you need to do more i.e. you cannot afford to be lazy!
What more can you do? You can FLOSS. And when I read up on all the Ciao Floss ops I was horrified at not only the poor interest in this category but also the sheer ignorance in this art. This I blame on the dentistry profession and I thank God (and a dear friend) for introducing me 5 years ago to perhaps one of the best dental practices in this country. This practice operates under the private DenPlan scheme which provides my family with 4 visits a year, each visit including a 30 minute session with the Hygienist followed by 15 minutes with the dentist (that's for routine matters - any treatment e.g. fillings are in addition to this time). This practice shows you EXACTLY how to floss and tells you WHY you need to and it's NOT just to remove particles of food from between your teeth which shamefully, is what you are led to believe! Flossing should ALSO be performed to remove plaque from under the gum line - which the electric toothbrush cannot do!
Enough said about flossing as I intend to write an op on this subject in hope that Ciao members at least will have no excuse for wearing dentures in later life.
THE BRAUN ORAL-B 3D EXCEL PULSATING TOOTHBRUSH So why do I think this is the best brush in the world? I'll tell you. Before I bought this brush I was using the InterPlak electric toothbrush recommended by a dentist 10 years ago and I have to admit, that was the best brush available at that time. It had 12 sets of bristle groups that rotated 8000 times a minute in a head the same size as a standard manual toothbrush. That in its day was astonishing. Today, the 3D Excel has a round head, 12 mm in diameter with 26 bristle clusters that move in-and-out 40,000 times per minute reaching deep to loosen plaque whilst simultaneously moving side-to-side 7,600 times per minute to whisk away the plaque. The 3D Excel brushing action cleans by combining two distinct motions - pulsations and oscillations, to loosen and sweep away plaque. Now that's why they call it the Excel!
The Oral-B 3D Excel D17525 X Deluxe (the model I bought) comes with 2 colour coded Indicator brushheads and 2 colour coded Interspace brushheads (for cleaning between teeth as well as around bridges, crowns and implants). The Indicator bristles allow you to monitor the life of the head in that after 3-4 months of proper brushing, twice a day for two minutes, the blue colour on the bristles disappears to half-way down the bristles, telling you it's time to buy a new brushhead. The colour coding (Blue and Green rings) allows both my wife and I to share the toothbrush using our own heads.
HOW MUCH DID IT COST? Although the RRP was about £65, by looking around I was able to buy this set from Argos 2 months ago for £54.50 which I think is excellent value for money as it provides an electric toothbrush for two people!
WHAT ELSE DO YOU GET FOR THIS MONEY? - The brush is electrically safe and comes with its own charger which should be plugged into a standard 2 pin shaving socket. A full charge takes 16 hours and will provide about 45 minutes of brushing time.
- Hygienic storage for up to four brushheads which can be wall mounted if you wish.
- Non-slip control grip for safe precision handling
- Memory Timer signals after 2 minutes of brushing time which is the recommended minimum time for cleaning teeth effectively.
- Pressure Sensor helps you protect your gums from excessive brushing pressure.
- Small plastic carry-case for over-night stays
USING THE TOOTHBRUSH The brush can be used with any brand of toothpaste. However, the manufacturer does not recommend using pastes with whitening agents. If you want to avoid splashing, it is recommended that you place the brush inside your mouth before you switch it on. The brush has 2 speeds: press the switch once to operate at normal speed (40,000 pulsations/min), twice to operate at reduced speed (20,000 pulsations for sensitive areas), and press a third time to switch it off.
I have to admit that when I first started to use this brush, I found that coming from the 8000 revs/min InterPlak, the 40,000 speed was too much for me, so I graduated to the top speed after 3 days of using the slower speed.
You are supposed to guide the brushhead slowly from tooth to tooth, keeping it in place for a few seconds before moving on to the next tooth. You should brush the gums as well as the teeth, firstly from the outsides, then the insides and finally, clean the chewing surfaces. You shouldn't press too hard or scrub and you should just let the brush do the work.
EFFECTIVENESS After knowing how powerful this brush was I was totally shocked some three weeks after buying it when I inspected my teeth after cleaning them for the full 2 minutes on one particular occasion. I could still see minute food particles trapped between some of my teeth. So I used the brush for another 2 minutes only to find the particles were still there. Flossing removed these without any difficulty. On several cleaning sessions since then, I have noticed a similar occurrence which just goes to show that you cannot rely on this brush alone.
CONCLUSION By using this brush for 2 minutes twice a day your teeth will feel clean, it will help prevent gum disease and help prevent the build-up of tartar. But PLEASE take notice of my comments regarding flossing (and please look out for my op on this subject).

...The toothbrush is a Braun 3D Excel Pulsating Toothbrush. WOW!
It’s a funny thing the guilt you feel when you realize that you have not been cleaning your teeth right for at least two decades. The Braun 3d comes with its own stand which houses the 2 pin plug for re-charging. Each full charge takes 16 hours but gives 45 minutes of cleaning. On the basis that a typical clean takes 2 minutes that’s erm 22 ½ cleans at 2 per day, eureka it lasts 11 days. ... ...time, as it cannot be overcharged. This is not practical because there are two 3D’s in our house and one shaver socket in the bathroom, so it gets done at the weekend. In an adapter, in the bedroom, by the light and the radio alarm. On my side.

Braun Oral-B 3D Excel Pulsating Toothbrush
Fresh breath and nice teeth are always something that I pride myself on and I do believe that having nice teeth really is very important. I have been using this toothbrush for a few years now and I am really very happy with the results and the performance of the toothbrush itself, which is why I thought I would write a review of it.
I had this toothbrush bought for me as a Christmas present a couple of ... ...partner and that cost me nearly 25 quid coming in at £24.99pence. They are often on special offers and they can be found cheaper on the Internet I do believe. The cost of replacement heads is around the £6 mark, which gets you two new heads, and I usually get these from Tesco and my boyfriend and me will change heads at the same time. This price for replacement heads is fairly steep considering I change them every three months which is about how ...

ALL BRAIN BUT NO BRAUN – YET
I must admit that I was sceptical, since it didn’t at first sight appear to do anything that my existing Colgate battery brush didn’t do, except eat batteries. As a compromise, I decided to keep on with the Colgate until its batteries were knackered – they are now.
So, now I’ve started using it too, ... ...just can’t be bothered!
BRAUN POWER
However, the Braun does have some obvious advantages as soon as you pick it up. For one thing, it’s lighter, and for another it’s slimmer, making it more “manoeuvrable”.
Now that we’ve been using it for a few weeks, a few other salient points come to light. Despite being rechargeable, it seems to work for ages away from its charger. In our case this is just a well, since our bathroom has no electrical supply ...

The BRAUN Oral-B 3D Excel D17511 Electric Rechargeable Toothbrush Recently our electric toothbrush died. It had been feeling its age for a few months – the rechargeable battery not holding its charge for long, the motor getting rough, bits coming off the wall holder. I looked back through the records and found that I had bought it (Braun called it the Oral-B Ultra back then) over three years ago for £ 54.99. Mind you, for the use we have had out ... ...to compare – and indeed Braun seemed to offer at least half a dozen. From the description and specifications on the box, our original model was still available in a slightly updated form as the Oral-B 3D. There are also two 'up makret' models in the 3D Excel range, one of which I bought. MY NEW TOOTHBRUSH
The box gives you snippets of information and specifications in four languages (English, Italian, Spanish and Portguese). The brush itself is ...

...about a toothbrush - The Braun 3D Excel - and I am proud to say it has had a positive impact on my life.
Confession Time - I was one of those teenagers for whom brushing my teeth was a chore that my mother made me suffer. I usually managed to brush at least once a day, but it was generally a fairly superficial effort lasting 20-30 seconds at most. Needless to say, my visits to the dentist were not very pleasant and frequently expensive.
It wasn't ... ...first was a Braun 3D Plaque Remover, which I replaced a year ago with its successor, the Braun 3D Excel.
This toothbrush comes in two forms - The Personal and the Deluxe. The Personal is just the base charging unit, toothbrush and one brush head. The Deluxe adds a travel case, 2 interdental brush heads for cleaning those awkward gaps, an additional brush head and a larger base charging unit with storage space for 4 brush heads.
