For those who have an older power toothbrush, let me say that upgrading is worthwhile.
My darling wife had to be convinced that this was the case. Her first assumption was that her gadget-addicted husband had just been tempted by ... ...for two weeks!!!??
Maybe Braun will devise an on-off switch that has a locking device like they have on their shavers.
These brushes do cost anything between 60 and 100 pounds.
But look for special offers which will keep your outlay nearer the £60 mark. It is still good value, especially since our first ever Braun toothbrush still works fine after 7 years - but has no blue neon light!! ... more
This is a worthwhile product for those still brushing away with manual toothbrushes. I used to be sceptical, too - but several years with another Braun toothbrush, a 4729, has changed my tune. Don't just take my word - the dentists all seem to agree that power brushing is as good for you as power walking!
For those who have an older power toothbrush, let me say that upgrading is worthwhile. My darling wife had to be convinced that this was the case. Her first assumption was that her gadget-addicted husband had just been tempted by another blue neon light. Within a day of using the new Braun, she was agreed that it is a significant improvement.
What do you get ?
It is a much more powerful model than previous ones, and you can select any of three speeds. It has both oscillating and pulsating action which seems to clean more effectively than ever. The brush is pressure sensitive so too much firm action, and the motor lets you know. It has a 'stuttering' action to let you know when to move to the next part of your mouth and when the whole brushing programme is finished. It has a variety of brushheads. A standard flexisoft for normal use, a ProBright head for polishing and whitening teeth, a Dual Action which adds side to side motion, a tongue freshener and then a interdental cleaner with a set of picks.
AND you get a blue neon light!! It flashes when the unit is charging and is on steadily when fully charged.! What will we do when this generation decides that blue neon is no longer cool!
Batteries are the usual nickel-hydride, which take most of a day to reach their full charge at the beginning, but afterwards last for 16 hours - about two weeks brushing.
Our only problem has been arriving abroad to discover the unit had discharged itself in the wash bag - and we had left the charger at home, because it will last for two weeks!!!?? Maybe Braun will devise an on-off switch that has a locking device like they have on their shavers.

Advantages: Teeth so clean they felt polished Disadvantages: Waiting for toothbrush to charge when it arrived
I'd had a Braun electric toothbrush for many years but dropped it on a tiled surface and it died shortly after. After much deliberation I opted for the Professional Care toothbrush although I thought it was a bit pricey. After using this toothbrush my teeth felt so smooth and shiny. The only other time they've felt this clean was when I had them polished to remove all the adhesive after I had my brace removed. The timer is really useful as well as ... ...for a few weeks and when it was low the other day I used my partners old Braun electric toothbrush. The difference was amazing. It was like going back to an old banger after driving a luxury car. I couldn't go back to the old one now. ...

...Toothbrush, but switched to the Braun ORAL-B PC 8500 DLX D 18.585 X after i got given it at work. (I used to be a dental nurse and got it free when the Oral B rep came in with a free sample.)
As a dental nurse i heard lots of people coming and raving about various different dental products, including the dentists and the hygienists! One thing they all seemed to agree on was that this was a pretty good product.
My previous electric tooth brush was ... ...(a bit masculine for my liking but i was thinking of my teeth!) This tooth brush was a lot more powerful than my previous one and seemed to leave my teeth gleaming! I loved it from the very first use. The tooth brush also came with a pack of various different heads for it including a tongue scraper thing and some polishing heads (inside the circular brush area) and little tiny brushes for brushing in between teeth, this was a lovely little extra ...
