Breaking Dawn

Breaking Dawn is the fourth and final book in the Twilight Saga, at present it only seems to be available in hardback, as the paperback isn't available and is an extortionate price anyway.

Plot

***I am going to write this assuming a certain amount of prior knowledge - that the reader has read the first three books, so BEWARE only proceed if you accept this.***

The final book resumes with Bella and Edward still and couple and about to go ahead with getting married - it is then accepted that Bella will then make the change to become a vampire. Jacob is now at a distance from Bella, as he believes he has finally lost and here and worryingly that when she makes the change - she will become his enemy. Whilst the book seems to start off with the feeling that rivalry between the vampires and the werewolves will be the main focus of the plot, this is only the beginning there is so much more...

Opinion

This book surprised me...a lot....it did not turn out at all like I expected and I was a bit miffed at first to be honest. This book completes the saga and ties up many lose threads bringing everything together. I would only recommend reading it if you have read the rest of the series, as by itself it probably wouldn't make much sense.

After completing it, whilst I did not agree with the path that Meyer took, I can appreciate why she made the choices that she did. The storytelling as always is very easy going and this time there is a change, the book is split into three sections; the first part is from Bella's point of view, the second now from Jacob's and then it switches back to Bella.

Bella's character really comes into her own in this book and for readers who may have been irritated by her selfishness, here she redeems herself and people may warm to her character more. I also enjoyed how some of the other Cullen characters such as Rosalie and Alice had a more fundamental part to play in the story. The only issue I perhaps have character wise is with that of Charlie, Bella's father - it was always going to be a difficult relationship to get right in the end and I felt that the way it was handled was grasping at straws a bit to be honest. There are many more newer characters in this book as well as a return to some older ones such as The Volturi, which I think will be interesting to see when the book transfers to film.

There is quite a lot of descriptive detail in this book and at times, I feel it is overdone. Meyer should stick to the dialogue a bit more, as this is where her strength lies. A good aspect of the book, is that I think it isn't easy to predict, something I find often happens in books, so for this reasons it keeps you engrossed wanting to find out how things pan out.

I read it quickly - within 24 hours, so start it if you have the time lol. I would recommend this book for older readers; I think that this book is very different to the rest and deals with some issues that might not be for a young adult. However, Meyer never intended it to be for that audience, she wrote it for herself, so it was always going be completed in a more grown up way. That being said, it is not exactly x rated, it just has a different flavour to the other four books.

The book has 768 pages, so Meyer really did put her heart and soul into this book.
Availability

It is available from Amazon for £7.49, which you will have to pay if you get addicted from the first three.

Summary: May not satisfy all fans but still a worthy conclusion to the saga

Well reviewed although as it ain't my genre of reading, I won't end up being ' miffed '.
