avent electric breast pump

Advantages: easy and gentle to use
Disadvantages: none

...been out and bought the avent pump with an £89.00 price tag. This I thought was expensive but was in hind site well worth it. Its easy to use and not harmful to the nipple like some. I have used it for 3 months and do not know what I would of done without it, it definately played a part in me breast feeding for longer. Be careful buying cheaper models as you really do pay for what you get and that is really important as once you get sore it is hard ...

Great for breastmilk, weaning and beyond!

Advantages: reuseable and not too expensive
Disadvantages: it's sometimes hard to put the lid on.

...is an adapter for the Avent manual breast pump. I found this brilleint because I could put the pot directly onto the pump and express right into it. You can also attach a normal bottle top to the adapter and feed your baby straight from the container without having to swap things around. I found this very useful because on a few occasions I have poured some milk into an actual bottle and spilt aload of it everywhere. I also used them as weaning pots ...
...whilst trying to turn the lid and in this process I'm bending the plastic out of shape which makes it resist turning. Over all these cups are very versatile and handy to have around and they are even better if you have the Avent breast pump and bottles. ...

Avent Breast Pads

Advantages: Saves money over disposables
Disadvantages: Bulky

...bought a pack of 6 Avent pads at Boots for £4.99. They are made of a soft material with a waterproof backing & have a lacy side which aswell as looking a bit more feminine serves the purpose of 'gripping' the inside of your bra to make them more secure. They come with a small net in which to wash them so that they don't get lost among your laundry (vital if you don't want one whizzing out your sleeve in public when you take your freshly washed cardigan ...
...there's no telling how much money I've saved. Since they are not tapered at the edges, nor do they have indentations for your nipples, they are bulkier than disposables, so invest in a padded nursing bra, otherwise they'll be seen from space! They do soften & subsequently mould easier after washing the first time. I always wash mine in non bio detergent when washing baby's clothes, just to be sure that they don't cause any irritation to my skin. ...

Probably kept me breastfeeding

Advantages: Works! Doesn't need to be washed off before feeding
Disadvantages: Very expensive and also quite thick - but that's probably why it works

I originally had another brand, which came in a pre-packed hospital bag. I soon realised that was useless (you even needed to wash it off your breasts before feeding, which seems mental). I had cracked and bleeding nipples after a few weeks of breastfeeding and was in pain every time I tried to feed. I was recommended this by my midwife and was initially very sceptical given my experience with the first cream. However, this worked like a charm, ...
...not only soothed my nipples but seemed to repair them (I know it sounds mad!) Within a couple of days I wasn't in any more pain. I went on to breastfeed for 13 months, and still use my tube for things like chapped lips and cracked heels! The only drawback is that it is extremely expensive (nearly a tenner a tube) but it is so much better than other creams I think it still represents very good value for money. ...
