Breville IR29 Steam Iron

The Breville IR29 Steam Iron is a basic but good quality iron, it is the only Breville product I own and I must say I am impressed! It cost £14.99 from JTF Warehouse about fourteen months ago and so far I've had no problems with it. The main reason that I bought this iron was that it is pink, sad I know but I love all things pink! Coinsidentally one of my friends bought the exact same iron for the exact same reason so I'm sure there are other women out there who the pink has appealed to! It helps to bring a bit of girlyness to your day to day boring chores such as doing the ironing!

Description
The iron has a white handle that is comfortable to grip and the first set of dials are on the top of the handle. There is a variable steam dial that allows you to select how much steam output you would like (from 1-5), a dry setting and a clean setting for the self cleaning function. There are also two buttons with this dial, a spray button and a powerful shot of steam button for removing stubborn creases, this button can also be used for vertical steam for things like curtains. Underneath the handle the temperature dial is situated on top of the water tank with an indicator light that glows orange when the iron is warming up or cooling down to your desired temperature. The temperature settings start at minimum, then progress from one dot through to three and then along to max. These guidelines are coloured in blue on the dial with synthetic, silk, wool, cotton and linen written in darker blue as a guide for the types of fabric that are suitable to be ironed at the indicated temperatures on the dial.

The cord is two metres long which is average for an iron although at times I wish it was a bit longer due to where my plug sockets are situated and the cord outlet swivels so that it is easy to manouvre. The iron rest is very sturdy and the cord wraps around the end of the iron easily and fits well when the iron is not in use. There is a little white clasp at the end of the cord to clip it together and keep the plug secure. The iron comes with a pink jug to fill your water tank and the tank is filled at the front of the iron before the tip. There is a max fill indicator along the side of the iron in silver writing.

Performance
I tend to use my iron once or twice a week for an hour each time as I prefer to iron in bulk rather than on a daily basis! The jug provided holds enough water to fill the water tank to its max level and I always use it on the steam setting of four or five and the temperature on three. This is sufficient enough to iron out most creases and I find using the iron on these settings I have to refil the tank once during that one hour period. I am very happy with the performance of this iron and have paid twice the price in the past for an iron that has not performed as well as this one. This iron is pretty powerful and gives great crease removal. On synthetic fabrics I switch it to dry and set the temperature on two. I am also very happy with the fact that I've had almost no limescale come out of this iron. The self cleaning feature is very easy to use and the manufacturer recommends that you do this once every two weeks but over the past fourteen months I have only done this about six times. The amount you need to clean your iron is affected by the condition of the water in your area so I may just be lucky. The instruction book is very clear with a diagram on the first page explaining all the features, it is worded quite basically and isn't too long either.

Conclusion
For the price I paid for this iron it is a brilliant little product! If it broke tomorrow (fingers crossed it won't!) I would go out and buy the same or the nearest model Breville iron again. For £14.99 it can't be faulted as this is a good performing reliable iron with enough features to cater for the needs of most households, and if you like pink then the colour is an added bonus!!
