There are a number of gadgets that we all have in the home, most of mine happen to be in the kitchen. The review that I am doing today is the Breville Rice cooker, model number ITP135. I remember the time when I said that I didn’t really see the point in a rice cooker; I always cooked it in my microwave or on the hob. That was until I was round at a friend’s house and she was using one as we were having a homemade curry for tea. She was telling me all about it and I guess she sold the idea to me so I kept my eye out for one and when I spotted this one on sale I took the plunge and made the purchase. Here are my thoughts.
I don’t think that this would be worth it if you were not cooking rice on a regular basis, I have a rice dish at least once a week and I paid £19.00 for mine. At full price you will be look at paying more around the £35.00 mark. I got mine in Curry’s, the electrical retailer store at the Christmas sale. The product is also available on the Amazon website so it can be find and fingers crossed for a good price as well!
The product came in a cardboard box and upon opening you will see that there is a one year manufacturers guarantee as well as a detailed instruction booklet, I was grateful for the advice as I had never used a rice cooker before and even though my friend had told me all about it, I was a little wary. The appliance looked very stylish, it had a chrome finish and we are told that it has a capacity of 1.8 litres. The rice cooker also comes with a serving spoon and a measuring cup.
The rice cooker was not that bulky which one of my worries was; instead I found it to be easy to work with but quite compact. We need to measure the rice we want, handy as we have the measuring cup, I tried this out on just me and my partner but I do have a tendency to cook slightly more than I need! The rice cooker needs you to put the rice in the non stick bowl and Breville suggest washing the rice through first, sometime I remember, other times not but I have never found it to change the outcome. The rice cooker then needs to be activated by a couple of buttons on the front of it.
There is a timer that allows you t pick how long you want the rice to cook for and once the water has been added it is ready to go. I must mention that you can use this as a steamer but I prefer to use this as the rice cooker that it is. There are 2 different heat settings, again found on the front of the product and this obviously determines the temperature your food cooks at.
The first time that I used this product, I did not put enough water into the product, I was a little worried but you do learn as you go on and with practice you soon get it right. The rice cooker has now become a real help in the kitchen and even better help when I am cooking rice for larger numbers, I no longer let the water boil over or get the wrong amount, I can judge it a lot better and I also find that I cut down on waste rice.
The product is also really easy to clean and with warm water and the non stick tray you are laughing.
I would be happy to recommend this and its a 4 out of 5 from me
Thank you for reading
