Let me state first what I wanted this juice extractor for: I like having a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice for breakfast. I currently use a Philips comfort citrus press which requires cutting the oranges into halves and manually pressing them down. I really tfancied he type of juice extractors I have seen in bars: all is required is to drop the whole orange in and juice comes out at the other end (quickly & no effort).
This is not what the Breville Anthony Worrall Thompson Juice Extractor JE15 does !
It seems that the fruits are grated and spun to maximise the juice extractions (I thought the extraction was via a press): this means that the oranges (and other citrus fruits) have to be peeled first.
Having discovered that I could not insert whole unpeeled oranges, I also then realised that:
a) it is really huge & bulky (many times the currently used Philips comfort citrus pres);
b) you cannot have juice coming directly into a glass: you must use the large & bulky jug which is provided or else the juice will splutter all over your worktop as it comes out at high speed from the spout;
c) it seems to extract more juice than the Philips press but a good proportion is "froth", which does not taste nice, and this is why the provided jug has a froth separator;
d) cleaning theJE15 is a much bigger task than t cleaning the Philips citrus press: there are 8 separate pieces to dismount & clean (rather than 2 with the Philips citrus press) and it takes much more time to clean them and much more worktop surface to lay them out to dry.
In conclusion the E15 can extract juice from a much wider variety of fruits but is much more bulky and expensive. If all you want is freshly squeezed orange juice, a small citrus press is not only much more compact (and cheaper) but also much quicker to operate & clean.
We bought this because it was a Which? Best buy in the August 2006 issue of the Which? Magazine but this review did not really explain the drawbacks & limitations of this item!

I found the review useful in it explained why the juicer wasn't really suited for citrus, and that a proper citrus juicer would be better. Juicers are marketed as all signing devices, but it is only when you come to use them that you realise that most 'all in' juicers do citurs fruit badly.

"This is not what the Breville Anthony Worrall Thompson Juice Extractor JE15 does " You are quite correct with this statement. You have bought the wrong product for what you require!! That is not the fault of the juicer, unfortunately. I have this one, on a recommendation, and I have had it four years. It is the single most useful kitchen appliance I own and offers excellent value for money and a good quality juice without straying into the price bracket of more expensive masticating juicers such as Champion. You should have bought an electric citrus squeezer...

I think youre expecting the citrus press to be as easy as a juicer - which this model isnt! A bit of an unfair comparison - better just to add what the Breville can do with other vegetables since it is a juicer and NOT a citrus press.
