Up until November 2008 I had always used the Breville JK52 model that was until it blown up and stopped working.
So here is a review of the item that I bought to replace the JK52 model.
I need to buy another kettle which was quick at boiling and was of course stylish. As I had had my last Breville since November 2005 I was more than happy to buy another Breville.

Why this model
Well as I have already said I wanted another Breville as I had been happy with the previous model that was until it died. However I did look around the internet to insure that I was doing the best thing. I really wanted a kettle that was funky, stylish and obviously stood out from the rest. If I have to be honest the fact of the wee extras really done it for me. I know some people like basic kettles
that boil end of, I just like the wee extras too. It fits in well with my kitchen, white in colour; blue viewing area allows you to see the water level very easily.

If you?re like me then you will be desperate to get the box open as soon as you get home, that?s because my other kettle stopped working.
The kettle (Breville JK119) is packed very well with the box, inside a poly bag and then placed well in the snow!

Features
*Multi-directional(Rotational) base~ I love the ideas of this, a spinning kettle well you know what I mean a kettle that can be used by both left & right handed people. It's really easy to turn the kettle round on the base without actually spilling any. This is definitely something that I love about this model.
*Rapid Boil~ where would I be without this feature, as we have always had a rapid boil kettle, there is just no way I can go back to a standard kettle which takes ages. This kettle takes 1min 2secs to boil a full tank of cold water. Previous Model only taken 54secs
*Illuminating~ love it! Yes this little beauty does really illuminate now. When in action (boiling) it illuminates red and when on standby it?s blue. I think that this alone is a huge selling factor for this item. RED = Dangerous. Blue reminds you that the kettle is still on, having this feature ensure you never leave it switched on as it lights up your kitchen.
*Filter ~ now a kettle that has a washable filter has to be another plus point for this kettle. I am sure that if you live in a part of the country where you water is not as good as mines (hahaha) then you will make good use of this. It's really easy to click the filter out to wash it and it's just as easy to re-insert it too.
*Cord storage~ as I have the kettle right up against the wall I always make sure that any kettle I buy has cord storage with it. Well the base of this kettle acts as just that, I just had to unravel the cord that I needed and leave the rest wrapped around the base. Don't worry about the base being uneven when you have the cord under it as there is a specially designed track for it.
*Concealed Element~ unlike my last kettle this element is concealed which means that it will not go that horrible way. Looking in to the kettle all you see at the bottom is a silver base which conceals the element.
*Large Tank~ another good thing about this kettle has to be the fact that it can hold 1.7 litres of water at one time. With winter upon us it's going to be handy to be able to boil 1.25ltrs within 1min 2 seconds.
*Non slip base ~ we all worry that our kettle will be knocked on to the floor or just knocked over. Well with these little non slip pads on the bottom there is no chance of it moving.
Water Gauge~ It's simply too see just how much water you have it the kettle at anytime, you can clearly see the gauge from both sides of the kettle.
First use
Once it was plugged in you need to boil a full tank of water and then discard it straight away as this will ensure that the kettle is clean inside and that all residues are removed too. You are also advised to remove and rinse the filter before the first use too.
Clicking the kettle on to boil is very easy; a simple push down lever will start the kettle to boil.
My thoughts
I am very happy with the new kettle, for many reasons which you can read above. However I am happy with the fact the kettle is light weight, easy to grip and rapid at boiling. It really does stand out from the rest and it my opinion it's very modern. Its boil time is good, but I do think it could be slightly quicker.
Just to touch on the grip of this kettle, the handle is large enough for all hand sizes and the grip even when hands are wet is still very good. I would say that this item is suitable for elderly and disabled people. Its light weight and very easy to use.
