There are many appliances in my kitchen that often get used and then get put to the back of the cupboard, I have phases of using these appliance’s, grow a little bored of them and try something else, this was the case with my blender and my food processor and one appliance that is now firmly back on my worktop that had been sat hiding in a cupboard was my Sandwich / Toastie maker! I clearly remember buying it and then using it almost constantly and then I guess I just got a little bit fed up of it and it was only recently that we spoke about making one and so it made a return from the back of the cupboard and to the work top. Here are my thoughts on my toastie maker, a Breville 4 slice sandwich maker. (Model VST 025)
As I mentioned, we had been talking about getting a toastie maker for some time and it was only in the Christmas sales, not the year just gone but prior to that, we had waited purposely for that reason. The sandwich maker will normally retail at around the £30.00 mark but we made the purchase for £24.99, this was in our local Comet electrical store. There were a number that we could have chosen but we knew that in our options we wanted at least a 3 sandwich one and this fitted the bill really well. I have also had items from the Breville brand in the past and been pleased. The toastie maker can be found in places like Curry’s as well as online at Amazon so it is still a product that is readily available.
When we got the product home and began to have a look at it I was pleased to see that it had a good detailed instruction booklet as well as one year manufacturer’s guarantee. The sandwich maker is made from stainless steel and has a very classic look about it; the only other colour on the product is a black handle and feet. Once unpacked and on my work top, it sat really well and felt really sturdy, I lifted the lid, this was done with no real effort and saw that this sandwich maker really did have a good amount of room to make the advertised 3 sandwiches, we were particular about this as I had a model before that only made one at a time and we were always eating at different times and waiting around for it so it never really was a quick fix for a meal in the end, this one is much better, it is specifically for toasting the Panini bread
There is a good amount of electrical lead to allow you to plug this in, approximately 90cm and once plugged in there is a timer that will indicate when the grill plates are up to temperature, a red and green light are placed on the front of this model and it is soon up to speed, just over one minute and you are ready to get cooking! I found that it can fit the 4 loaves of Panini in really well and no matter what filling you are using, it seems to be able to cope with it really well.
I love the simple cheese and ham Panini and it seems to have no issue at all in cooking this, I have even used slightly messier ingredients and created a baked bean toastie the once! The hot plate does obviously get warm but it I have always found this to be a very safe product to use, that is also the same when it comes to cleaning it, I let it call down and then it will be safe to just give a wipe over and you will be fine, it is a very east to keep clean product, it is not awkward or intricate at all.
The best thing about me is that this is a quick fix and due to the slightly larger size makes it even better. The item is not too large to store though, the handle will lock into place so you can store the item on its side which is our preferred method.
In summary, I have been really pleased with this purchase and although it is not always used on a regular basis it is really effective and makes a great meal really quickly!
4 out of 5 from me on this one
