Advantages Advantages keeps baby close to you, easy to use, attractive

Disadvantages Disadvantages too big to fit through doorways

When I was pregnant with my baby (now 8 months old) I spent quite a while looking at different cots. The idea of a bedside cot really appealed to me, especially since I have ME and wanted to make night feeds as hassle free as possible. I decided on this specific brand of bedside cot because of the castors and the "up and over" way of removing the extra side, rather than storing it beneath the cot like most others do. Whats a bedside cot? --------------------- A bedside cot is basically the same as your standard cot, but with the option to remove one of the sides and put it right up against the ... more

Advantages Advantages good idea in theory

Disadvantages Disadvantages very dangerous with wrong type of bed

i saw this product in a catalogue during my pregnancy, and thought it looked ideal - as a solution to the dilemma of keeping baby close at night for feeding and comfort, but eliminating the risks of co-sleeping. The basic idea is a standard wooden cot, nicely made in a pale wood finish, but as well as the usual drop side, the side also slides right up over the top and out the way. The base has a choice of 17 levels, so that you can bring the cot right alongside the parent's bed. I really liked the idea, and duly ordered the cot to arrive shortly before my daughter. Only one safety issue ... more

    Disadvantages Disadvantages baby in bed

Adrian is now in his big bed no longer in his cot. Let me tell you about the cot before I forget all about it. The cot my daughter chose for her son is a brio bedside cot. It can be used as a standard cot with both sides of the cot up and away from your bed. But the reason my daughter bought it was so that it can be used fitted next to her bed with one of the sides down so its like an extension to her bed for baby. The side that is next to your bed is swung up and over leaving one side of the cot open too your bed so you can access baby easily or he/ she can crawl into bed with you. The side ... more

Advantages Advantages No need to disturb baby after feed

Disadvantages Disadvantages May not fit all beds

A bedside cot is one that goes right up against your bed. One side of the cot lifts over the top and is then placed on the other side. This is especially useful if you are breastfeeding. The base of the cot can be put at numerous diffent levels, so you can match it up against your bed height. I wish I had known about this cot when my first son was a baby. As all breast feeding mothers know, a breast fed baby often will only fall asleep while attached to the breast. Hence I could never get my first son to sleep in a cot. Every time I got him sleeping I would try and put him in his little crib ... more

Advantages Advantages Save you from getting out of bed, saves space

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Price

I had always liked the idea of the bedside cot but knew that it would be far too big to fit in my bedroom. I had a Moses basket in my bedroom with my first baby but found it to be quite noisy as it sqeaked when the baby moved about and it wasn't very big at all. It was also quite awkward getting out of bed to put baby back in the Moses basket after a feed (particularly if you've had a C-section). I happened to find a Brio bedside crib which although not yet assembled is a fantastic idea if you are struggling for space but want to be close to your baby in the early months. It was £99 but well ... more
