I have always had a problem drinking water straight out of the tap…. I know it's all healthy and has passed certain tests and standards but still…. When I think about all the pipes and bits it had to travel though before getting into my glass it gives me a little shiver. I may be fussy but I can not help it!!

The filters do not actually change the taste of the water but I do believe it makes the water cleaner and also healthier. To some extent it is also in the mind set of the drinker. Some people would probably think that a water filter is a waste of money! Well this is what the Classic Brita filter actually does and this is why I will always use it….it reduces lime scale and other substances such as chlorine which affect the taste and odour in your tap water. (Limescale is the off white, chalky substance that is in the bottom of kettles and on the outside of taps etc). The filters also reduce aluminium and certain heavy metals (like copper and lead) and certain pesticides (like diurone) in tap water. Organic impurities are also reduced. The result is cleaner, clearer water and you will also have less lime scale build up in your domestic appliances, meaning they should stay working for longer!!!!!
Each filter lasts about a month in my experience and I fill my jug up around 5 times a day… so it is a product that does work for a good amount of time. To make sure you get the best you should change the filter regularly, most Brita jugs have something called the Brita 'MEMO' it s the worlds first electronic cartridge indicator. It tells you how much cartridge life is left in a little bar chart. As the chart goes down you know the filter is running out and it flashes when you need a new one… so you know when you need to run out and grab a new filter!

But if you look around a lot of supermarkets do special offers when you may get some money off so it is worth stocking up when you get the offer!! The Brita classic filter is the original filter made by the company and is one of the slightly older cartridges. They do many more now but are still completely stocked in most places.
What my family and I have noticed is if you stop filtering your water you can tell the difference…. It seems that my dad gets more wind... and my mum seems to get more bloated…. I just feel it's healthier to filter the impurities out. Another positive to the Brita filter is that they are RECYCABLE!!! Which I think is great and a perfect example to other throw away products in the market place. Because the filters are not reusable once they have been fully filtered out its important that they can be recycled. You can recycle the cartridges at a lot of shops and supermarkets such as Argos and the co-op and john Lewis. Brita's website allows you to type in your postcode and it will bring up a list of all your nearby stores that will take back your used filters. I think that's a great investment in more ways then one!!
