Whilst filling my water filter jug the other day, and getting ready to place it back in the fridge…… I dropped it ! Oh Gawd !! What the heck am I going to do now ? Buy a new one of course…..
Perusing the Argos Book, and various websites, I had not come to a conclusion as to which one to choose, there are so many. Anyway, it was once again, time for a shopping trip. We made plans to go to our local Tesco in Ashby-De-La-Zouch, Leicestershire. Shopping in Tesco is never easy for us, as Georgia seems to hate the place. We can take her into almost any other supermarket, and she will be fine. Take her into Tesco's, and she plays holy hell until we leave. This trip was a slight exception. We managed to placate her with taking her new bucket from her seaside set with her "Lovey" (a fluffy penguin called "Mumble" from the film "Happy Feet") in it. She was holding it like a shopping basket, and looked soooo cute. I digress……..
Walking round with Georgia and Mr Aussie leaning on the trolley (for once, no wonky wheel), I espied a shelf with "Bargains" on. I am a girl with an eye for a bargain. I saw Water Filters on the shelf…… I saw a few people heading over in the same direction, so, abandoning my Husband and Daughter in the music section, I shot off up the store to said shelf !
What did my eyes see ? Was I dreaming ? Hell No……
A Water Filter of well-known Brand, on the shelf at such a bargain price, I could not resist.
Back to the trolley and family I did go, with my hands wrapped around my bargain.

Instructions for Use Book, handy for the first-time users, or to refresh memory for people who have used them before.
First Use. =======
Like many water filters, Brita have a cartridge which you put in the jug that filters the water. This however, is not just ANY cartridge. This is the new Maxtra Technology Cartridge.
Pre-Filtration. Water goes in through a fine mesh, which retains particles that are present in tap-water.
Ion Exchange Filtration. Ion exchange resin kicks into action. This reduces Carbon Hardness, which is what causes lime-scale build-up in your appliances, and also reduces Aluminium, Copper and Lead in the water.
Activated Carbon Filtration. A granulated, Activated Carbon reduces substances which affect the smell and taste of the water in particular Chlorine, Certain Pesticides, and Organic Impurities.
Intensive Final Filtration. Special fine mesh, which retains the particle mixture from the other three layers of filtration.*
It has been proven that it has +20% improved lime-scale reduction compared to the Brita Classic Cartridge**

The jug is a clear plastic, which has a white lid. The lid has a special pour-through opening, which means you do not have to open the top of the lid when you pour the water, it goes through the hole, and the flap closes behind. Do not turn the tap on fully, or you will get wet !!!!!
The jug holds a big 2.4 Litres of water, with 1.4 being filtered at any one time.
Filling the jug couldn't be easier. Pour water through the special pour-through lid, which has a special flap so you don't have to keep taking the lid off.
I always fill the jug and throw away the first two jugs full, but the instructions give a handy tip, use the water to give your plants a drink !!
Cleaning. =======
Wipe outside with a soft, damp cloth, and then dry with a soft cloth or towel (non-fluffy).
Your filter is guaranteed by the manufacturers for 2 years if you register it, instead of the usual 1 year. For any and all other information, please do not hesitate to use the website for a good look round, giving you the choices of filters and cartridges…..
The proper price of this jug is £24.95 from most retailers, but this was on offer at Tesco for the bargain price of £6.25.
I found the best place to order cartridges online was from www.easyspares.co.uk
They are the cheapest by far, with 15 cartridges costing £47.49p
Advantages: easy to use Disadvantages: hasn't improved the taste of our tea
...my parents bought us a Brita Elemaris Cool Water Filter jug for Christmas along with a refill pack of 3 MAXTRA cartridges. Apparently they were fed up of the strange taste of our tea!
Brita make the following claims - "You will enjoy cleaner, clearer, great tasting water" and "protects your domestic appliances against limescale build up". "The BRITA MAXTRA cartridge reduces substances like chlorine, limescale..., aluminium, heavy metals... and certain ... ...what we needed.
We were quite impressed with the filter jug to start with. It has a special 'pour through lid', so you don't have to take the lid off or even open it to fill it with water - ideal for lazy people. There is an opening in the lid that automatically opens with the water pressure. As the funnel fills up, the opening starts to close so that you know to turn off the tap then. This method is prone to splashing and the lid therefore shows ...

Advantages: The water tastes better than previous filters, it's much easier to fill and use. Disadvantages: Still takes quite a bit of cleaning but again, a step up from the original jugs
Having owned and used a Brita water filter on a regular basis for several years, I couldn't resist purchasing the Elemaris when I saw it on offer at a bargain price on the shelves of our local Asda.
My original filter jug was full of water, so the first thing I did on unpacking the Elemaris was to pour a glassful from each jug to compare them. I was pleased to observe that the water in the glass poured from the Elemaris appeared cleaner and much ... ...quite a mess. Brita has solved this problem with the Elemaris. It has a hinged lid in the top for convenience of filling and it's narrow and rather elongated shape make it ideal to fit into the 'fridge door if you prefer your drink chilled.
I'm really pleased with mine and wouldn't be without it. ...
