Her name is Brita Fjord and it was love at the second look. Since years my mother wants to persuade me, to by a waterfilter. I refused all the time, for i thought: one thing more, which is standing in the kitchen without being used. What did my mother do? What mothers are always doing when they can`t convince you from a product: She donated us Brita for Christmas. I was sceptic, as I am always. First the package was standing in the kitchen for one week, still closed. Then I thought, ok, I`ll try it, for I have it. I am no fan of handling-instructions, but in this case I thought, better to read it first. So at first I smoothly cleaned the "plastic-thing" and then I put the coal-filter for 20 minutes into cold water, to activate it. Then I did water inside for 3 times as it was written in the handling-instruction. The water I gave to my plants, so they could get used to it. Then top on it, closed, pressing button until the changing screen starts and ready. Now I am using it since more than 4 weeks and this daily. And I not only got used to it, no, i fell in love a bit with Brita. Every time, when I am looking into my water-boiler I see nothing. No white plaque, it looks like new. My husband is experiencing the same with his coffee machine, which he had to clean from white plaque twice a month in the days before Brita. And when I am looking at my plants, i must concern that they love Brita too and they show me this every day with new flowers. Sometimes I am finding myself drinking water out of Brita. But what has convinced me completely is the filter speed, for as I told you in my last report, I am not patient at all. And on the package was written that you can clean the waterfilter in the electronic cleaning-machine (I am not sure, whether this is the right word), exception is the top, for it has the automatic changing screen, which shows when you have to change the coal-filter. But this I did not try yet (I will write, when I have tried it). As a short help for your decision here the most important things of my personal criteria in a summary:
1. Design: Inconspicuous, and therefor ok. Fits into every kitchen.
2. Speed: A very important thing for me. Water runs through quickly, therefor it is quickly to use.
3. Handling: Acceptable. A bit disturbing is the top, which is hard to handle, for it closes very good and is hard to open. I think it is because of a vacuum, but I think, this must be to reduce bacteria problems.
4. Filling amount About 2 litres which I enjoy very much, for I can cook 1 litre tea and 1 can of coffee at the same time.
5. Taste: Water itself tastes better than the unfiltered. My instant cappuccino tastes also better, for i must not be afraid of having some white plaque beneath the teeth. For my roibushtea I don`t need so much of the tea to get the same taste result. And what about the coffee? My husband says, he can`t taste a difference.
6. Preventing plaques: Absolute perfect. No need to clean the water-boiler or the coffeemachine since more than 4 weeks. 7 And the plants: They are really thankful and are growing very well.
Summary: Sometimes it would be better to listen to mothers earlier. Brita and me became best friends, no one will divide us again. And it is the only thing in the kitchen, which is being used continually ;-)))) Filtered greetings from supervizor1 P.S.I don`t know anything about the prize. It was a present. P.P.S. Thank you for all the lovely comments for my first report yesterday.

We have one too and we love it, cant live without it now, and gets used all the time, I would recommend one to anyone, who lives in a hard water area.

I am thinking about getting one of these - we recently fitted a new sink unit/taps in our kitchen and the water has taken on a slightly funny taste. This might help to make it more drinkable, and of course getting rid of the scale is handy too. Great op, thanks, Karen
