I’m on a bit of a health kick at the moment and dropped rather strong hints that I would like a water filterer for christmas. Santa Claus seems to have been listening and a water filterer is what I received.
It’s important to drink enough water a day. However chlorine, nitrates and pesticides are just some of the less attractive things in tap water.
The Brita water filter costs roughly £25 it’s available to buy in health food stores, supermarkets and Boots the chemist.
It comes with a little instruction book, which tells you how to prepare your water filterer for use. You need to buy the cartridges that filter the water separately, they cost roughly £3.95 per cartridge.
The idea of filtering water sounds quite scientific, but the Brita water filterer is easy to use. Three quarters of the filterer resembles a big, irregularly sized clear plastic jug. The top of the filterer is a funnel where the filtering cartridge is slotted through.
The funnel is where tap tap water is passed and filters down through the cartridge into the jug. For the best results you need to make sure the water stays in contact with the cartridge in the jug and does not go below the line where the cartridge ends.
Sometimes in the funnel part of the filterer there are small black bits, these look a bit gross at first, but are bits of carbon dust and are nothing to worry about. They don’t filter down into the main part of the jug, so theres no chance of you drinking them.
There is a device on top of the jug called a memo which tells you when to change the cartridge. It’s a little black strip with a small ladder divided into bars, which start of fully black and as time goes by the black area switches off segment by segment. It’s recommended that you change the cartridge every four weeks, so this is roughly how long it takes for the memo to run down.
The taste of the filtered water is definitely different from tap water. Filtered water tastes a lot like mineral water, it tastes really great. It even smells different from normal water. Although cartridges are relatively expensive, I’m really pleased with the effect of the water filterer because as I said at the start of this review I’m on a bit of a health kick!

I know I probably should, but I must confess to quite liking the taste of our tap water. Sad, isn't it?
