Advantages Holds a lot of water, good taste, easy to fill, easy to wash

Disadvantages Can't fit it in the fridge door

Three months ago, fed up with the disgusting and frightening-looking water that comes out of the (supposedly) cold tap in my kitchen, I went to buy a water filter.

I had already decided on Brita (my family has a Brita filter at home and I liked the taste of the water on it) and there was only one choice of Brita filter in Debenhams, where I went on my water-filter-finding mission. Straight away, I bought it and headed off home to enjoy my first glass of nice water in many, many months. It cost me around twenty pounds (it is fifteen on amazon).

I didn't realise at the time just how many different Brita Water Filter Jugs there are on the market, but I really am glad I bought this one. Firstly, it is big. If you want a filter jug that fits in your fridge door, don't buy this one, but if, like me, you just wish to keep a jug of nice, filtered water on your desk, this is the filter for you.

The way it works is that you pour the water into the top section and it then filters through to the main section of the jug. It takes about three goes to fill the jug right up (as you have to wait for the water to filter through before pouring in more), and then you have enough water to last you quite some time! It holds a whopping 3.5 litres altogether (including what has not yet gone through the filter cartridge).

The water tastes great - it is nice and subtle and easy to drink, and looks very clean. A vast improvement on the water out of my tap!

You need to replace the filter cartridge once a month - this is very simple, you just take it out of its packaging, dunk it in water to get rid of any air bubbles and put it in. There is a small gap between the bottom of the cartridge and the bottom of the place it slots into, and water tends to gather here, but this doesn't cause any problems (although I have to admit do find it slightly annoying!). At the time of writing, you can get a years supply on Amazon for 42.50 - Argos have similar prices. Not a bad price to pay for clean water!

I wash my filter every two days, which keeps the water nice and fresh all the time (my family at home only need to wash theirs every three days, so I think it possibly depends on the quality of the water). The entire thing is dishwasher safe, although I just wash mine by hand and it is very easy to do.

One thing I really love about this filter jug is the lid - it is cleverly designed so that you don't need to open anything to fill it up, you just pour and it goes through a little circular thing in the lid that opens up when you start to pour (and starts to close when it gets too full). There is also a meter that tells you when you next need to change the cartridge - very useful!

All in all I would highly recommend this filter jug - although not if you want to put it in the fridge door!
