Advantages: Attractive Rates of Interest, Friend Staff & Cool Passbook. Disadvantages: Lack of Branches as there usually only in major towns.

Britannia Building Society attracted me when I was in town and walked passed there branch, which was advertising "SAFC Junior Savers/247 savings account". ::::Introduction::::::::Introduction:::: Britannia Building Society attracted me when I was in town and walked passed there branch, which was advertising "SAFC Junior Savers/247 savings account". This was clearly targeted for Sunderland Football Club Fans (which was fine, because I do support them!) but I also wanted to know the interest rates. So I went home and looked it up on the internet, and it paid a very competitive 5.25% P.A. Gross! Another Good Thing About this account was because it's a Sunderland AFC account Britannia designed a passbook with the SAFC crest on it and red & white theme. Nice!
::::Opening the Account:::: Opening the account was such a breeze and took less than 15 minutes. I went to the branch with my bank account statement (off Barclays - also reviewed by me!) & birth certificate so that I wouldn't have to come back again. I had to fill out a application whilst someone copied my Birth Certificate and address on bank statement. Then I filled in the R85 tax-free form (as I'm under 16/earn less than £90 a week).
When I'd filled them out I was handed my SAFC Junior Savers Account Passbook and then was asked how much I'd like to open the account with and the passbook was updated.
::::General Views on Britannia:::: The lack of branches means I have to go my other nearest town centre which is 30minutes away, compared to my other bank with Barclays which is only 10 minutes away in my local shopping centre.
The staff are very friendly, polite and "chatty". So you don't feel like "Argh I'm going to the big scary bank"!!
::::Conclusion::: Well that's all. Nothing left to say. This is my "short-term" (less than a year, access a few times per year) saving account, my "long-term" (More than 1 Year savings, try not to access the account!) savings account is with Northern Rock…
Advantages: Good interest Disadvantages: Can't think of any.....
I've been with the Britannia for a few years now. I'm in the first savers account. The great thing is the Britannia consider you a youngster until you're 21 so you get great interest rates when other banks consider you an adult!!!! At least thats what the staff at my local branch told me!!! I chose to have a protected account (where i can't take money out until a certain age). This is great because your money just grows. I'm earning over £30 in interest ... ...their staff to be fantastic-they're helpful and always have a smile on their face. I'd recommend this account to anyone who wants their savings to work. It only takes a pound to open an account and the total amount you can have is £20,000 (lucky you if you have that much!!!) I pay in using a bank book because i'm in a protected account but there is an option of getting a Quickcash card when you're 12. The current interest rate is 4.70% although this ...

Advantages: Good service, trouble-free Disadvantages: Not a branch in every town
I can recommend Britannia Building Society to anyone who wants to open a mini cash isa. I have had no trouble at all with maine- the staff at my local branch are really helpful and willing to help at any time. They have competitive interest rates and at the moment are verging on 4%. The main benefit of having an Isa with Brittania I feel is that every year depending on how much savings you have and how lond you have been with them they send you a ...

Reviews which might be of interest for "Britannia Building Society Accounts"
Advantages: instant access, good interest rates, open from £1 Disadvantages: some customer advisors not the most helpful or knowledgeable
Save? instant access savings account for children came out tops in terms of interest rates earned (currently over 4 percent Gross) and flexibility in operation. There were also a couple of other banks and buildingsocietyaccounts that I considered such as Nationwide BuildingSociety?s Smart 2 Save (currently 4.00% gross), some Halifax accounts (though they required regular monthly payments) and BritanniaBuildingSociety. The only place I could find an interest rate higher than 4% apart from Alliance & Leicester was at some of the more rural Buildingsocieties. However, rural buildingsocieties often have their own built in clauses with the account meaning only local residents can open such accounts e.g. Saffron BuildingSociety (currently 4.7% gross). Therefore, the best choice of account available to me was the Alliance & Leicester First ...
Advantages: Mutual society means cashback, excelletn customer care Disadvantages: Savings and mortgage rates are a bit average
Britannia is a mutual buildingsociety, with branches in most towns.
I have both a mortgage and a savings account with them and have been in several branches near where I live recently, for one reason and another, so I thought I'd tell you all about it!
THE MUTUAL BUILDINGSOCIETY
What this means is that Britannia are not a PLC, and beholden to their shareholders, they are a society owned by the members. so when they make a profit, they distribute a portion of that as fairly as possible to all the members. The way they have devised is a loyalty scheme, whereby once you've been a member for two years (with either a mortgage, a savings account, a credit card etc) you get your share of the profits via a points scheme. The more points you have, the more profit you get, up to a maximum of £500 a year. You accumulate points by having ...
Advantages: Online ISA that's hassle free with a good interest rate Disadvantages: It is possible to get a higher rate elsewhere
Aberdeen, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Belfast, Newcastle, Liverpool, Manchester, Birmingham, Norwich, Cardiff, Bristol and London, and are backed up by a network of agencies. They also have a sharing arrangement called MutualPlus with BritanniaBuildingSociety, this allows you to make mortgage repayments, withdrawals and deposits on a number of their accounts.
The Account
The account I am reviewing today is their e-ISA account. I opened one of these In May last year - my first ever ISA (Individual Savings Account)! The current interest rate for this account is 4.90% AER (effective from 28th August 2005). As the name suggests this is an online ISA account. It is my understanding that in order to open any ISA account you must be aged 16 or over and must be a UK resident or Crown employee serving overseas. Basically a cash mini ISA allows you ...
Supposedly a mutual society, with some good accounts which they must 'forget' to tell suffering customers about
Who ever heard of a society which doesn't deal in cash? Or one which wants all members to have 2.5K to keep in a low paying account just to keep it op (*)
