Advantages great introductory offer

Disadvantages but they bleed you dry after that

Britannia – a name alsmot synonymos with junk mail, unwanted orders and rip-off prices.

And I knew all of this before I joined. So, you may think, why on earth did I bother?

Well, as you’ll all be aware I’m sure, they do these wonderful offers whereby you buy one DVD and get a load more free – in my case I got 5.

So at 6 films for £20 I thought I couldn’t fail. Even better when the openeing offer included box sets (I got the Scream DVD boxset – retail £50 – as part of the offer meaning I got about £150 worth of goodies for my £20).

And so far, it’s so good. Okay so they send you tonnes of unwanted mail, and every month they choose to post you something which you never ordered (although you can cancel this title from their website in about two seconds flat), and the prices are steep (DVD’s are typically about £20 plus about £1.50 post and packing) – but I knew all that was going to happen anyway. The rest of their service is pretty good.

You can order titles via their website, or once a month they send you a catalogue and order form. Most of the recent titles are available, and all are pretty much the same price as you would pay down the high street in the likes of HMV or somewhere. On top of that you pay some money for postage. Titles are typically despacthed withihn 7 days, although the opening offer can take weeks and weeks to come – be patient!

Customer service on the telephone is pretty good, and their fairly helpful although there is some differences between company policy depending on who you speak to – some days you can get box sets int eh opening offer, some days you can’t.

Listen – Britannia is not half as dodgy as you may think, but you’ve GOT to get your money’s worth out of the initial offer otherwise you are on a hiding to nothing. There are much cheaper places to buy DVD’s, particularly on the internet, and the fact they try and farm you off with a crap film once a month.

BUT!! If you do manage to nail the initial offer, it is well worth getting involved. The minimum commitment is 6 titles, and you can buy them all at once and then cancel if you so wish.

It’s your choice!
