Rescue me

Advantages: Very efficient; brilliant customer care; reasonable prices
Disadvantages: None

Britannia Rescue may be one of the least well known of the breakdown organisations, and they obviously have much smaller marketing budgets than the AA or RAC, but what they lack for in size they make up for in quality. ~ THE COMPANY ~ Britannia Rescue is owned by the Civil Service Motoring Association (CSMA) which is a private, non profit making leisure and motoring organisation. (Membership of the CSMA is limited to those who currently work or ...
...a CSMA member to join Britannia but as you will see from the price information below CSMA members do receive significant discounts. If you are thinking about joining Britannia my advice is to check first to see whether you are eligible to join CSMA. CSMA membership costs £15 per year and you will save more than this on the discounts from your first years membership of Britannia Rescue. To check to see if you are eligible to join CSMA you can visit ...

Simply the best

Advantages: Great service,prompt response,good value
Disadvantages: found none in nearly 20 years

I have been with britannia rescue for nearly 20 years and in all that time i can honestly say they have never let me down when i have needed them which in the early years due to me running old bangers and dodgy motorbikes was probably a couple of times a year. The longest i have ever waited for assistance was 35 minutes on a cold frosty boxing day a number of years ago when i totalled my motorbike into the back of a lorry. The shortest wait was amazingly ...
...a pint Britannia rescue is owned by the CSMA which is the Civil Service Motoring Association and they have offered their services to the general public since 1984 and now have over 400,000 members. They dont have their own vehicles but use local agents and have over 550 of them up and down the country and cover the whole of the uk and Republic of Ireland. I have also been a member of the rac in the past whose service in my experience leaves a lot ...

Slow response times

Advantages: price
Disadvantages: do not bother to check that their contractors can really attend in times they give

Joined Brittania through CSMA as price was good. Used them twice in 2 years and each time they took 2 hours to arrive. Both breakdowns were in populated areas which were easy to get to and neither were in peak breakdown periods. Problem seems to be that they use contractors who basically will lie about how quick they can get there so they get the job. each time I was told help would arrive within the hour, but Brittania don't check with customer ...

Britannia Rescue

Advantages: Fast Reliable Rescue Service

...have been a member of BRITANNIA RESCUE for the last ten years. I have had new cars in the last ten years until August last year when my Skoda Octavia was written off following an RTA and had never needed BRITANNIA RESCUE's services. In November my brother gave me a Vauxhall Astra (F Reg). The car has not been particularly reliable and has broken down several times. I managed to coax the engine back into life on several of these occaisions (I used ...
...these occaisions I called out BRITANNIA RESCUE and on all four occaisions they arrived fairly swiftly 15 minutes minimum and 45 minutes maximum (far quicker than the 4th emergency service when I was a member in the 80s, the average time then being2 to 3 hours!). On two occaisions I had to be recovered to my home and the other two occaisions I managed to carry on with my journey without any further problems. The guys who recovered me were all very ...

Reliable Britannia Rescue

Advantages: cost, speed of response, helpful telephone staff and drivers, nothing too much trouble.
Disadvantages: Nothing I can think of.

I took out Britannia cover many years ago and was drawn to them by recommendation by a family member. I liked that I could cover the car, regardless of driver, rather than covering the driver. Over the years, I have changed vehicles and covered more than one vehicle on the same policy when I have owned classic cars. Britannia don't have restrictions on age of vehicle, to my knowledge. Cost was the other factor important to me - cheaper than the competition. ...
...have had no problem with Britannia because they use local contractors, rather than their own fleet vehicles. I don't have the homestart option, though I have been recovered to my home on more than one occasion at night with agreement that Britannia will come out again the next day to my home to transport me to a garage - something I think is great customer service. I have introduced other family members and get £5 off next year's premium for doing ...

Stranded in a Storm

Advantages: None
Disadvantages: Tend to leave folk stranded

, asked if he could assist, I said that I wasn't a member, he asked me if I would be prepared to join and I said yes, he then towed me to the next service area, sorted the problem which was the points, I joined the AA with full recovery and he got a well earned Breakfast and cuppa out of me... o0o0o The Moral to this storyis... Never put off til tomorrow what you can do today, it was of course my fault that I hadn't rejoined the RAC despite the intention to do so, but for a lapse of less than 24 hours I think they were mean, and if this is the way they treat their members, then I am glad I am now a member of Britannia Rescue, what happened to the AA..well they got too expensive..but their service was excellent! ! ...

Free Cover I Can Do Without

Advantages: none
Disadvantages: see op

Ever since I've been driving I've had breakdown cover and I've always made good use of it (I used to be a world champion at locking my keys inside the car!). This cover has always been with Britannia Rescue who have always provided me with an excellent service. The longest I have waited in 13 years of motoring is 45 minutes, and once I got a recovery within 10 minutes when I locked my keys in the car and explained that the roads were due to be closed for a carnival. That’s before I called the RAC though. ~~~ Free Cover ~~~ I'm with the RAC because the cover came free for a year when I purchased a new car. I have often relied on breakdown recovery services to get me out of trouble and as I already mentioned I have always got excellent service. I did however think it was an unnecessary expense to pay for cover when I had this ...

Review of RAC

Where Was Our Friend at The AA When We Needed Him?

Advantages: Large Network of Patrols
Disadvantages: In our experience, bureaucratic, officious, and unhelpful.

The new motto of The Automobile Association Limited seems to be "You've Got AA Friend," and their website says, "Hello, how can we help you today?" Where were all those smiling faces when we actually needed their assistance? My wife has had coverage with the AA since 2003, when we moved over from the RAC after reading an article in Which? magazine. The article said: "Britannia Rescue and the AA had the best rating for the courtesy of their staff - over 80 per cent of their members said they were very satisfied with they way their calls were dealt with. Yet again, the RAC came out near the bottom of the pile. Just 48 per cent of callers were very satisfied with the service." Early on July 26 2005 two of our farm colleagues headed off from sunny Worcester in our Vauxhall Brava, towing a trailer with an Aberdeen Angus steer bound ...
