We originally bought a car seat that went with the buggy we bought, but I was never quite happy with the fit or safety of it. Plus my daughter out grew it very quickly.

Well, it has deep, softly padded side wings for side impact protection, it's ideal if your child (like my daughter did) has out grown an infant carrier but is not as yet ready to travel facing forward.
The unique extended recline position works well with the newborn insert (a sort of foam wedge that is designed to make it a better and more comfortablt fit for new born babies)
It's compatible with a wide range of different car seat designs and has alternitve seat belt attachment routes. The slim design base gives a good secure fit to modern sculptured car seats.
From 9 months on (about 9kg) as long as your child can sit un aided you can change the seating position to forward facing. When in this position it can be adjusted to 5 different recline positions to enable your child to be comfortable whether they are sleeping or a wake.
The seat itself weighs approx 7.85kg.
The seat covers are removable so you can wash them and replacement/spare covers are avaliable from Britax by contacting their customer service helpline on, 01264 386034
You also get a lock off device to make sure the seat remains securely fitted.
You can buy them from a number of shops including Mothercare and Halfords, both of which offer a free fitting service.
I bought mine from a local shop for well under the rrp of £120, but I've also seen them on the kiddiecare site for £94.99.
I would have saved a fortune if I'd bought one of these in the first place rather than buying one that my daughter had out grown by the time she was 3 months old.
I know I've rated it as being suitable from 0-12 months but this seat is actually suitable from birth-4 years approx.
It might be expensive but is there really a price for your childs safety??

Advantages: Comfy, stylish, long-lasting, easy recline mechanism Disadvantages: heavy
...First Class has replaces the Britax Club Class, but is similar in the way it fits. The seat is one of the more pricey ones at around £110, but I was lucky and purchased mine when there was a promotion on Britax seats in Halfords, and got it with 20% off. Anyway the price is pretty good value for money, when you consider the wide age range of this seat over others.
One of the benefits of this seat is that it can be used from birth in a rear facing ... ...with the seat to make it more comfortable for weenie newborns.) and up until they are 40lb (about four years old) in the forward facing positon
Of course, the real test of any car seat, other than whether it fits your car properly, is whether your baby is happy in it. My daughter has been road-testing the First Class every day for a month or so now and she loves it. She enjoys the high position, from which she can see out and look at all the sights. ...

Advantages: Very comfy for newborns and toddlers. Disadvantages: Hard to install rearward facing - but worth it!
**Age group is birth to 3+**
I got the first class when pregnant with my first baby as I have MS and didn't think I could manage with seats that you take in and out of the car. I just wanted to take the baby and leave the seat behind!
You do have to have extra long seatbelts to fit the seat rearward facing and have quite a bit of room between the front seats. We had a Mondeo so it fitted with no problems at all.
It is quite hard work to get strapped ... ...don't have to take it out again so it's worth the effort. Due to this I gave it an easy rating for installation. It is very easy to fit forward facing.
When our baby was first born she was quite tiny (6.5lb) and the newborn insert supported her very well. We did at first find the seatbelt annoying when taking the baby in/out but then we realised you can easily tuck it under the side of the seat and it stays out of the way but then you need to remember ...

Advantages: well padded, easy tu use , cosy Disadvantages: fiddly when moving from car to car
...this out by ringing the Britax customer helpline 01264386034.
It is rear facing as well as forward facing and comes with a newborn insert which when inserted raises baby nearer to the top so that the seat is not so deep. When in the rear facing position the seat must always be fully reclined.
In the forward facing position it has a 5 position reclining handle from fully upright to fully reclined which is easily adjustable by lifting the handle ... ...It has the usual 5 point harness strap which is easily adjustable with four shoulder heights.
The seat is fitted using the diagonal belt and there are a number of seat belt locks to ensure the seat is well fitted and although Halfords offer a free fitiing service, the instructions are easy to understand. It can be a little fiddly when you first try and when moving the seat from car to car.
Although suitable for most cars, all makes, models and ...

Advantages: Easy strapping in (the kids), and easy fitment (to the car) Disadvantages: Quick release button won't be a quick escape
...seats from birth, but these Britax seats were their first forward facing seats.
Straps are an item worthy of comment.... There are 2 shoulder straps, big loops that come from behind baby's bum, to the shoulder pad.
The two loops each have a buckle clip, free sliding on the strap. When the child is placed into the seat, the straps must be brought around the arms, and brought together in the middle before inserting into thebuckle, which is attached ... ...effect, once buckled, you have shoulder , side, and groin straps, connected through one buckle.
Despite the buckle having a quick release button, it seems neccessary to release the 'length' on the harness straps prior to releasing the Q/R buckle, or the child will still be restrained by the 2 seperated shoulder strap loops, and will not be easily removed from the vehicle. In everyday use, the straps must be lengthened before rleasing the child . ...

Advantages: Sturdy, safe feeling and comortable. Disadvantages: None that I have encountered.
I wish I'd had it from birth - this is a lovely car seat, comfy, sturdy and fits in my car! I really like the feel of the material, it's very easy to get baby in and out and it will last for a few years at least.
I has a soft, padded insert for newborns, the shoulder pads are not too stiff, it's easy to adjust the straps and my baby seems really comfy in it .
It is rear facing for up to nine months and then goes forward facing after that. Good ...

Advantages: It keeps us 'legal', offers some degree of protection Disadvantages: Not user firendly, or car friendly!
Unfortunately my baby outgrew his first car seat before he could go 'forward facing'. Equally unfortunate is the fact that this is the only car seat that will fit my car until we can move onto a booster seat!
Rearward facing this seat seems a poor fit in any car. Disturbingly, the Britax fit finding programme lists the fit as only 'acceptable' in most cars (I tried my family member's car types as well as those commonly used by famillies).
The seat harness straps can only be adjusted by taking the seat out of the car which is a nuisance. If we go out and it's warm, out comes the seat, if it's a cool day and my baby needs a coat, out it comes again. This does not sound a huge effort, but when you spend twenty minutes fussing over the fit each time, it is! The harness is difficult to get to the right fit, the best way to get it safe ...
Advantages: Light and easy to fit Disadvantages: none have had no probs
This is the second 13kg+ carseat i have purhased. My main one, which is in my parents car is the britaxfirstclass which in itself is very good, however it is very bulky and heavy therefore a pain in the backside to transfer to a different car. Therefore its preferable to keep it in the car and have a second spare carseat thats lighter and easier to store to use with my sisters car.
The first thing that attracted me to the britax freeway carseat was the price, the usual price is around £70 but when i went to mothercare world they had the black and grey check design reduced to £55 due to the colour being discontinued which was a bonus considering i prefered it to the regular colour.
I got the assistant to show me how to fit it in my sisters car and i have to say i knew instantly i wouldn't have a problem with getting it in and out ...
