Advantages: Interesting, a good read.
Disadvantages: Too biased, paints an unfair picture.

...gymnasts from the USA make the Olympics every four years. But that isn’t the main reason we do the sport. I would have loved an Olympic medal, it was my dream. But I don’t feel a failure for not getting there, I feel a success for achieving all that I did, however minor. The author seems to believe success equates to the amount of money earned from the sport. She states that “Mary Lou Retton and Nadia Comaneci are the only gymnasts who have made a substantial living from their sport.” Well, gymnastics has its roots in amateur sport. For most gymnasts, their aim is an Olympic gold medal, not millions of dollars. It is interesting to note, however, that those ‘only’ successful gymnasts – Mary Lou and Nadia – were both coached by Bela Karolyi. Yes, that rude, abusive coach with barbaric training methods. Hmmm. A straight left to the chin
Review of Boxing - A.J. Newton by  baeswoman

Advantages: Keeps the family name going
Disadvantages: I dont get royalties!

...aggrandisement giving his CV and such vital information that "Appointments can be assured by wire or first post" Not only a book about boxing but a fascinating glimpse into British History. I still have the original brass plate that was screwed onto his front door inscribed; "AJ Newton School of Arms" The first page of the book is taken up by an advertisement for Spalding's Boxing Gloves. The cost of these ranged from 5shillings 6 pence(27 ½ p) to the huge price of 15 shillings (75p) I wonder if the firm is still in existence and if they would still charge these prices. The 2 companies that take up the next page with their advertisements are Spencer Heath and George who supplied Physical training and Gymnastic appliances - no prices given but an illustrated catalogue could be obtained post free upon application, and an advertisement for a I...
