Advantages: Will Smith carries the film surprisingly well Disadvantages: The monsters, the ending
I Am Legend - the title of the film could either refer to the book from which it's adapted, or to its insanely long production history. Once upon a time Mr Schwarzenegger was supposed to be headlining this jolly tale of a scientist who finds himself the last human alive in a post-apocalyptic New York. It's been through numerous production nightmares over the last few years, and was it worth the wait?
For a film that mostly consists of Will Smith talking to his dog, it's all pretty exciting, it has to be said. By day, he hunts deer in Time Square, and practices his golf from the prow of an aircraft carrier. By night he hides in the bath with his dog, while bloodthirsty mutations stalk the streets searching for human prey.
This set-up would be enough for any number of horror films, but I Am Legend stretches the plot still further ...
Advantages: Introduces children to a different culture and the concept of folk tales Disadvantages: No guidance given as to where to read about the other adventures
This is one of 14 books written and illustrated by Joanna Troughton in the 'FolkTales of the World' series which are quite widely used in schools across the land as it's a stipulation that children's minds are 'opened up' to different cultures, hence that I have acquired a few of the books in the series.
♪♪♪ Monkey and The Water Dragon ♪♪♪
The story was originally written in the 16th century by Wu Ch?eng-en. This book is about one of the adventures that Tripitaka, the monkey and the pig get up to on their way to India to re-claim the Buddhist scriptures and return them safely to China.
Before I read this to the children, I tell them how the goddess Kuan-Yin chose Tripitaka for this long journey but since he wasn?t very brave, she gave him two servants to protect him, the mischevious monkey ...
Advantages: classic, british, high profile, large track list Disadvantages: poor insight, pricey
Capital Gold has put together a audio delight of classic British talent with this CD. Filled with great stars from Paul McCartney to Robbie Williams, The Shadows to Pet Shop Boys and many more, it boasts high profile status. If you are living in Britain and are over 20, you are guarenteed to know at least 5 of these songs (even if it doesn't look like it when you look at the track list)
From the smooth saxophone in Gerry Rafferty's Baker Street to the poignant drum filled extravaganza which is Phil Collins' In The Air Tonight. This will please both older and younger listeners with the clashes of The Kinks to Robbie Williams and The Stereophonics. They themseleves showcasing a cover of Mama Told Me Not To Come with THE Tom Jones.
In my opinion, this is a great album for a British beginner but it doesn not delve into the talent ...
