I've HAD IT with British Gas. I have had their homecare for boiler and radiator cover for 17 months and have had roughly around 13 visits from their engineers all of whom have said that there is no need for me to buy a new boiler but mine is just temperamental !! Having just had the last of 2 visits (all visits have required me to take time off work which they do not seem to care about) last week (Thursday & Friday) the boiler worked for a day and a half and then broke down again (Sunday night). I have explicitly explained to British Gas that my employers will not give me any further time off during work hours to resolve this problem to which I was PROMISED that someone from the planning department would call me to arrange an engineers visit between 6-10pm . . .surprise surprise NOBODY CALLED ! NO ENGINEER HAS COME. Now day 3 (of episode 14) I am still without heating or hot water. I am battling with British Gas to get someone to take this seriously and for a visit to take place at the very latest time possible.
Having cancelled my plans twice thinking that B.Gas would send an engineer round (Tuesday & Wednesday) I am now going to have to wait until FRIDAY to get this sorted (5 days after the problem had been reported and a week after they had initially been round to my flat to fix the problem).
It seems that their staff have only been trained in 3 sentences ?sorry there is nothing I can do?, ?you can have an appointment between 1-6pm? and ? yes I understand but . .?. When you call one person will say they can do something and then you speak to another and they will say the total opposite.
I have decided that I am now going to cancel my policy and find a company who are capable of fixing boilers and actually try and help the paying customer.
So basically my message to those thinking of taking out a Homecare Policy is . . .if you want to chuck your money down the drain then go with British Gas . .if you want to deal with professionals . . go elsewhere !!

Advantages: None that I can think of...oh..they have the word "British" in their name Disadvantages: Customer Service (lack of), Prices, Attitude...oh everything really
