I moved into my present property in December 2003. There was a gas meter but no gas connection. Even so , British Gas sent me regulatr bills dor about £1 or £2 a quarter. I contacted them with my details but the bills continued for about a year. Although I told them my name, the Bills were only ever addressed to "The Occupier".
Later I had gas central heating installed and transferred to another company (London Energy, part of EDF). That's when things got really interesting. I had a bill due for payment from British Gas, but decided to pay with my final bill, When I started to get red letters from them, I phoned to say I would settle with my final bill. They said they hadn't received a reading from my new company. I contacted London Energy who sent them the reading again. British Gas still denied receiving this.
Even though I was already being supplied by lOndon Energy they threatened to cut my gas supply and said they could legally do this as as far as they were conerned I was still with them!
I short, I had so much hassle from British Gas that I will never go back to them. It took ages to get connected to someone and their attitude was absolutely terrible. In contrast when I phoned London Energy, I was straight through to someone in their office. They were extremely helpful and polite. They told be it was up to the two companies to sort out the dispute. Eventually, I received a zero bill grom British Gas and I'm glad to say goodbye to them.
How helpful would this review be to a person making a buying decision? Rating guidelines
You have a great basis for a review, you could add more detail such as tarifs, how often someone came to read the meter & customer service & whether they offer a discount for particular payment methods.
Advantages: None that I can think of...oh..they have the word "British" in their name Disadvantages: Customer Service (lack of), Prices, Attitude...oh everything really
