It all started when I had a dishwasher that broke down in the first 12 months. The engineer who came who came was from Britsh Gas and he told me about how I could cover all my kitchen appliances with one monthly payment.
Back then it was £10 a month for three appliances. Within the first year of taking out this policy my Dishwasher and Dryer both became unrepairable due to parts not being available and British gas gave me vouchers to go to Comet and buy new ones of similar value.
Although they have since changed the rules and no longer give you the full value of the machine if they cant repair it, its still a great deal and works out much cheaper than the individual insurance cover would be if you bought it with each new appliance separately.
Currently I pay £17.25 PCM and it covers the cooker, dryer, dishwasher, american fridge freezer and washing machine ( although I need to get that taken off as I just bought a new one with 12 months cover.
Over the years my old washing machine was repaired more times than I can recall ( it was the hotpoint from hell) and no job was deamed too big, from door seal to new drum. I think they came ten times over the past year to that wretched thing and it was never questioned nor was my fee increased.
When the seal on the door went on my previous fridge freezer they replaced the whole door. When a piece of plastic trim fell off the Oven door they replaced it, when the dryer broke down they replaced the whole drum. When you call they usually arrange a call out within the next couple of days so you are not waiting ages and they have engineers who cover their own areas so you often end up with someone who has been to you before which is reassuring if you dont like numerous strangers calling at your home.
The best part is that I havent had one single expensive repair bill for any of my appliances since I got this cover. My most recent call out was just before Christmas when it was decided that the Hotpoint washing machine was no longer worth repairing and I was issued with a £70 voucher to go towards a new one purchased from Comet. The voucher arrived by first class post the next day.
I am always very skeptical about buying extra cover for anything, especially when they try and sell it for stupid cheap items like hairdryers and kettles, but this cover has saved me a fortune and kept everything ticking over with no issues at all. I cant recommend enough.

I am not sure about getting cover on anything. Isn't better just to have a saving account and pay into that for emergencies. That is what book I reviewed said.
