I did a three month placement with BNFL as a researcher in one of the groups and I loved it. It changed my perspective on my degree entirely and changed my mind as to my career path. Until then, i had no interest in my degree subject, but putting the learning into practice really opened my eyes. The people I worked with were nothing but helpful and friendly. I was in the Preston area, which wasn't great, but there's a lot worse, and the cost of living there wasn't high. I worked for this firm some years ago but left to pursue a dream of mine that i wanted to work for myself. To be honest i wished i hadnt have left as BNFL is the best firm i have ever worked for. They really know how to look after you as there is nothing underhanded, everyhting from tea breaks to sick pay is all laid out before you start. I worked at the Springfield site just outside Preston and used the works bus from Blackpool every morning. It was a cheap way of travelling and give me time to read my paper before i started work.
