My name is Anna Louise. My favourite of my senses is smell... I know-what a curious and verging on the ridiculous thing to say I hear some doubters saying! ...But if you do understand me, you know what a thrill a fragrance can be. Its really inexplicable to me how just a concoction of fragrant notes can create hugely different and amazing fragrances to suit every occasion, mood, and create or add to memories, but ohhhhh they can! Hey I'll tell you now I know nothing technical about perfume, its creation nor production I only know what I like...
Britney Spears-Midnight Fantasy Eau de Parfum Spray
As many of you may know Britney is prolific...in releasing crowd-pleasing pure cheese pop songs, performing/miming her little heart out to sell out concerts worldwide, and grappling with the not so pleasant side of being a star-media interest which is not always so positive. But as well as all that...lest not we forget she don't half put her name to a few perfumes! This one followed Curious, Fantasy, and Curious in Control and arrived on our store shelves in around about 2006. Subsequent to that there's been Believe, Curious Heart, Hidden Fantasy, Circus Fantasy, Radiance and Cosmic Radiance bringing us upto 2011. You'll see in time there's a few of them in the collection that float my boat and I'll write about them perhaps a bit later. The perfumes she endorsed, as I understand it from Wiki, are Elizabeth Arden ones which took me a bit by surprise. I don't know why-I just guess I was surprised to see that such a big and highly renowned perfume house as that would take on that huge endorsement franchise. Very conscious that I do not wish to over-use or abuse Wikis infinite knowledge I will also just quickly refer to the claim it makes that to date... Spears has grossed upward of US$1.5 billion from perfume sales across the globe, equating to almost 1 billion bottles in 5 years. Not bad for a crazy gal!
So what do I like about this one specifically? Well largely its an adorably almost-sickly sweet blueberry pie smell!!! I know what you're thinking...sounds revolting. Well maybe it would be to some...in fact I see from other reviews online on other sites it doesn't seem to be very popular at all...or at least not with certain demographics I suppose. While I don't want to put anyone's nose out of joint that might be older and likes it, nor do I wish to insinuate I am a spring-chicken, it really is a young-persons perfume I'd say... It just screams loud, brash, fruity, sweeeeet!!! Its base notes are (unsurprisingly to those who have read my other reviews...) Amber, Musk, Vanilla but then the Middle notes are Orchid, Iris and Freesia with Top notes of Black cherry, Raspberry Liquor and Plum. Its difficult to describe and perhaps imagine but those top notes are really quite punchy-they are heavy and overpower the more subtle notes as you spray it initially, but then the smell settles and it seems to harmonise better into a more rounded more palatable scent, whilst remaining really evocative and edgy. It wont go unnoticed if you spray it-its a big smell!
The other lovely thing is how it lasts. The intensity dwindles a bit as time goes on but its still there and very likeable for hours to come. Because of the fruits and florals I think most people would go for this as a summer days spray but I thinks its got more gore than that...I think its just dark enough and sensual for a date perfume or a night out...an of course it is called Midnight Fantasy, and I find that flexibility an appealing feature. To those who argue its a kids/tweens perfume...well I won't enter a very convincing counter-argument...I can only say that I like it deeply and it has stood the test of time in as much as I haven't got bored of it and just moved onto something else. Much like all of my fragrance collection...its has a time and a place, and more importantly a mood of mine that it fits with. I'm usually in more of a confident frame of mind when I go for the loud scent of Midnight Fantasy, leaving my softer fragrances for days when I'm feeling quieter or low.
How does it look? Well it complements the style of bottle they used for Fantasy...but instead of the deep pink coloured glass for the bulbous bottle, this one is deep purple. That works-it suits the personality of the scent and the night-time persona. Its not too delicate-a simple coloured glass ball housing the liquid, with accents of glitz and glam with silver accents and a silver 'choker' round the neck. When bought alone the EDP comes in a matching cardboard box which is not too frivolous thankfully-some perfumes packaging can be so incredibly wasteful and uneconomical. This ones not too bad. It can also be brought in a gift set in certain stockists, usually at Christmas and comes along with either a body lotion or a body lotion and a lip gloss. However these sets aren't that common in the shops...this may be linked to the fact that it is often sold at an incredibly reasonable price most of the year round for a sizable bottle. Along with some of the other Britney perfumes it is often on a promotional offer in Superdrug for example-my impression is that it one of their preferred partner brands. You can almost always get a 100ml EDP for £20 or even less- I believe currently at Superdrug its £17.99 for that size. Bargain....or some would say cheap... Whatever! I recommend Superdrug for more competitive prices, great staff and beauty points ;p.
I will admit freely and openly my adoration for Britney Spears, and a bit of lust for the girl. I hear there's a Britney Doll too-I might get me one of them soon! But then again maybe no..!
