Britters, is back, but for how long?
Advantages Sexy and Hip
Disadvantages Not very Talented
As I was flicking through the television I realized that there was absolutely nothing on (what a surprise!) so I turned TMF on and watched two hours of mind numbing documentaries and interviews about Britney Spears, and to my surprise my opinion of her changed, I actually think she is a normal girl in her middle twenties, who is rebelling against the image the music business and the media have made for her. At the moment she is being a rebel, but she’ll soon get over it and mature as an artist and maybe even bring out a good song. Also I found out that I like her and her work, more now than ever before, as she is exploring more adult subjects, with maturity and isn’t making a whole gross-out humor. I am not a big fan, but I will try to give a balanced review. Starting off with music, sorry I will have to do this by single, as don’t know anything about her albums, of which I think she has released four.
MusicSometimes: This is one of those dodgy ballads that is meant to be meaningful and emotional, but is emotionally starved and just overly cheesy. Although this single had all those faults, Britney’s vocals are nice and the backing music is slightly catchy. The video was just a cheese fest, with Britney and her backing dancers dancing around on a beach in brilliant white clothes. Overall 2/10 a really mediocre ballad, with little emotional power even though everything else is to perfect.
Crazy: This song was taken from the soundtrack of a Melissa Joan Hart teenage flick. This is a fairly upbeat tune, with such original lyrics as ‘you drive me crazy, I just can’t sleep’ Overall 2/10 complete trash, which is only liked by twenager’s who did there little bops. Crazy how bad it actually is!Born To Make You Happy: This single is basically Sometimes all over again, all the points that applied to that single apply to this one, is meaningful and soulful to 6-7 year olds, but after that you realize that it’s just recycle tripe that has absolutely no relevance to people in the real, grown up world. Overall 2/10 again a very mediocre ballad, that has little relevance for people over the age of 7.
Ooops I Did It Again: This for me was the single that the audience got a slight glimpse of what was to come, the song was utter rubbish, but all the media attention went on to the video which featured the now infamous red cat suit. Again cheese a top of cheese. Utter rubbish again, but got to number one, and showed the audience that Britney was growing up, and was aware that she was also classed as a sex symbol to. Overall: 4/10utter rubbish single, but the video was funny and confusing.Lucky: This was supposed to be semi-autobiographical, and it’s all about how the media and general public have completely different perspectives of a star than their true personality. Again Britney’s voice is perfect (to perfect to be real) the lyrics are naff and the video is just sad. Utter rubbish again, which lost the sexiness of the previous single. Overall 2/10 rubbish single with no meaning and ad lyrics.
Stronger: This is more like it, a high tech, interesting song, with a super sexy video and lyrically a bit better than usual I suppose. The video contains Britney in tight leather doing athletic flips with chairs. This was a good pop single; that I enjoyed, but raised questions about if or if not she was still a virgin. Overall: 6/10 a fairly high tech and up tempo single, which is better than the previous.Don’t Let Me Be The Last To Know: This was a fairly big flop financially. Not very good, can’t really remember it but know that the song was bad. Overall: can’t remember this but can imagine a palm tree for some reason.
I’m A Slave 4 U: This is the best single from all of the ones I have written about so far: It is hip, cool and sexy. The song is about Britney being accepted by adults, and her exploring her sexuality. I really enjoyed this one, as it had urban licks mixed in with the subtler than usual pop. The video was uber sexy and Britney is growing up. Overall 7/10 a pop single which had been mixed with some urban licks. The best single so far.Overprotected/ I love rock and roll. I love rock and roll is the strongest single on this b side. Although it completely and utterly butchered the original, it was better than the tripe that was overprotected, which had lyrics that go on about stepping out as women. Overall: both 2/10 because both negating and rubbish.
Not a Girl, Not Yet Women: This came from Britney’s debut movie Crossroads, a nice ballad, with nothing fresh or original about it. Overall 5/10 nothing very good, but better than the tripe that Overprotected was.Boys: I loved this tune, Boys, sometimes a girl just needs one, boys. This came from the Austin Powers prequel Gold member, in which she starred in. This was produced by Neptune’s, great single. Overall 7/10 again has elements of urban free style.
Me against The Music: This was a duet with Madonna, fairly mediocre, French and Saunders did it better!Toxic: This brought britters back to the for front, as it was her first number one in ages. Really catchy and cool. Overall: 6/10a good, even though not very interesting single.
Every time: Another number one, better than any other ballad this artist has ever done.Personal Life:
Recently in the past few years, as Britney has adopted her new sexier image, the general public has dragged her through the mud, calling her such names as trailer trash and white cow and everything. I personally think that she has been more upfront than most over people would of. She is also just doing, what everything other teenager early twenties do, just she’s a lot more in the spot light, please people just get over it, you would have done worse when you were her age, what the hell has she done anyway.
Previous Relationships
Justin Timberlake: These two seemed really happy, for a fairly long time, then when they split up, it emerged that she had lost her virginity to him, which caused the public to call her a liar and so on and so forth.
Jason Allen Alexander: these two got married in the infamous White Chapel, but they got it annulled within two days, as they confessed they were drunk and did it for a laugh.
Kevin Federline: This is her most controversial love yet, are they married are they not. Ahh it won’t last anyway!
