Advantages: Cheap, reliable Disadvantages: Apparently bad technical support
When Sky Broadband first came along I remember there was a lot of negative press and a lot of customers moaning that their internet was rubbish and was behaving erratically. A perfect example of that is a friend of mine who got Sky Broadband almost as soon as it came out but it never worked properly. Either he couldn't get wireless signal when he was a couple of metres away from the router or the router would not get any connection. With all this ......nothing to complain about but Sky were offering broadband for free (as long as you had Sky TV) so I couldn't really say no. When I looked into the price I realised that that free offer had a download limit of 2GB. I download over 10 times that in a month so this was no good for me. I rang them up and they told me that for £5 per month they would change this download limit to 40GB and give me upto 8MB connection which is what I had with Blue Yonder. ... Read review
Advantages: None Disadvantages: Premium rate numbers, very poor customer service, awful cancellation experience
I have used Tiscali from the 56k dial up days to broadband, as they used to provide relatively good value for money. I find that they would do anything to get new customers, or when an existing customer decide to upgrade (e.g. FREE phone number for sales), but once you've became their customer, you would have to ring premium rate numbers for any kind of support (0870, even 09 numbers for technical support). My nightmare began last year (Oct 2007) ......cheaper provider (with faster speed). First of all, I had to ring a 0845 number to cancel, and was put on hold and listened to their music for about 15 minutes before someone picked up. She tried to drag on the conversation and when I said I'm not happy about having been on hold for so long (and being over-charged for this call) and all I want to do is to cancel as quickly as possible, her attitude became very rude (but I'm not stupid enough to argue ... Advantages: Works sometimes, Cheap Disadvantages: Slow, likes to break, Orange service
Internet is one of the things that no company seem to be getting right just now. So our 8Mbps wireless broadband is currently running at 2Mbps and is frequently not even working and their helpline is completely hopeless. Last time we phoned the only advice she could offer was to try turning it off and on again. It's not broke in a while actually (I think the trick is to never turn it off) but it does sometimes randomly cut off and it takes at least ... Read review

...I've been a customer of Demon for the last ten years or so, the first eight or so as a dial-up user then switched to Broadband (on their Home 2000 package). As a pioneering ISP in the UK, the company consistently provided an excellent and trouble-free service during the time I was a dial-up user. I never had to ring their Customer Services once during those eight years. This state of affairs, however, changed when I switched to Broadband. In their ......things become slightly different. Demon were sold off to an energy company some years ago so they're probably not the small independent customer-friendly lot they once were. That may be the source of the problems I'm currently having with them. Signing up online is easy from a dial-up connection, the modem arrived promptly and was easy to install and connect up to Broadband. You also get sent a little business card with your login details in case ... Read review
