For many years i had a slow unreliable ink jet printer. It could only take black and white ribbons and went through them in about a month. I decided to try out laser printers in the hope that it would cut down on running costs and would speed up my time spent printing off documents. After having used this printer i can never see myself using another ink jet printer again. I have had the HL-1250 for just over 6 months and not had to change the toner yet and it came with only a half toner! I have been astounded by the speed at which pages can be printed and the loading tray has saved me much time and effort. The tray is sturdy and has a very helpful gauge showing how much paper is left. A far cry from having to put in a new individual sheet everytime a new page is reached. I have also found the front loading space very helpful in printing cards, envelopes and any sheets that need to be printed on both sides. I have had no problems with this printer so far and the only time spent printing is waiting for the information to be sent to the printer. A power cable instruction manual and the printer was all that was in cluded in the box. This made it easy to setup which is basically plug it in. A warning however you will need your own printer cable to connect the printer to the computer. So if it is your first printer keep this in mind. I hardly used the instruction manual. Windows (98) had the drivers for it. As soon as i turned my computer on with it plugged in it was automatically detected and within a few minutes i was ready print. There is also a helpful demo button on the side which prints off a pre stored information which you can use before you buy to check the quality of the print out. Places such as PC world where i purchased mine from are happy to let you see this demo sheet as all the printer needs to produce it is power. I would advise anyone who has never had a laser printer before to get one especially this one as it is reliable and comparatively cheap next to its competition.
You say in your review that PC World were willing to print you off a test page. When I went to buy mine they were extremely unhelpful, refused to power it up, print any sort of test page or show me any test page.
I had to choose the printer simply on the good reviews that I had heard of it.
Luckily, as you can see in my review, I'm very happy with it :).
Ink jets are so expensive to maintain-the cartridges need replacing so often! My dad has bought exactly the same printer at under £180 its a bargain! (dont forget to add the price!)as Laser printers are not as expenisve as some people think they are quite often similar price to ink-jets! A sensible choice if you are printing a lot of pages in Black a very useful and informative opinion, thanks, Ciao!
That's much more useful but is hard to read. If you split it up into sections with a clear line between them it's a lot easier on the eye! Keep up the good work! Anna
