The HL-4050CDN features an up to 21 page per minute print engine for both color and monochrome output and auto-duplex functionality. At this level of performance, users can concentrate on producing and delivering their work, rather than waiting for the critical output they need for their busy daily routines. But the HL-4050CDN speed does not come at the expense of print quality. It produces colorful, high resolution 2400 x 600 dpi output that results in razor sharp text and brilliant color quality to consistently produce professionally looking documents.
Advantages: CHEAP ALTERNATIVE TO INKJET Disadvantages: THERE ARE FASTER LASER PRINTERS OUT THERE
...Im on my second brother printer now and I really can't fault them!!! Having attached it with the supplied USB cable, Windows XP immediately recognised this and was able to use it immediately!
Personally I only use it for documents, envelopes and labels but then what else is there. It is very reliable, cheap to buy and quite versatile.
Graphics wise you may come unstuck as it only has 4 MB of memory on board but then as long as you don't want picture perfect photos you will be OK.
As an alternative you could opt for the next model up which is the BrotherHL-1440, however, considering this costs approximately another £100, I don't consider this to be good value.
Anyway, buy one now as they really are a bargain!!!...

Advantages: Fast, Cheap, Reliable Disadvantages: As with all lasers, the toner cost
...I bought the BrotherHL-2030 in October 2005, having hankered after a laser for months. I was fed up of my inkjet printer letting me down (will review that after) so I thought that a laser would make life easier. It certainly did! It can operate at speeds of up to 16 pages per minute which is far more than adequate for me. I also use the printer for school projects and find that the printoffs are of a good quality which *is* required.
I have recently bought a toner cartridge for around £45 (although you can proably get them cheaper) which I was ready for (if you did not appreciate the costs involved, it could prove a shock).
Overall, I find the HL-2030 to be a great product....

Advantages: cost effective printing, easy to install, Disadvantages: Bulky
...The BrotherHL-1030 Laser Printer represents excellent value for money and produces excellent print outs at an affordable cost.
It boasts 10 pages per minute but in reality it is about 8 PPM for an average text doccument. Toner cartridges are about £35 each and will last for about 4000 pages. The printer setup allows you to make 25% or 50% toner saving, this produces a lighter more grey print but is excellent for draught copies. Printing on full toner produces print outs comparable with much more expensive printers.
Connects via USB or serial port and is simple to install. Paper jams are rare but easily cleared....

I've wanted a new printer for a while but am fed up of paying more for print cartridges than the printer itself so I have ordered and just received a Brother HL-2040 Laser Printer.

Both my partner and I had been using the Dell all-in-one printer than came with her computer for some time. It was ok. It obviously printed in colour and had a scanner. However, I was becoming pretty annoyed at how much ink it used up when only... more
General & price:
WOW, what a brilliant printer this is. Another great laser from Brother. I have had this printer for quite a few months now. I bought it for around £150 but the prices come anywhere between £140 and £220 from verious online retailers or more
As part of our workstation upgrade my employer replaced all of our aging Hewlett Packard laser printers, allocating one printer to 4 workstations to ensure that there was never really a queue of people stood around the printer waiting for large documents more
This is a printer built to replace the earlier models. It now comes in what looks like trendy grey, but dont let that make you buy it. It is a very good little workhorse and works best with (in my experience) original toners and drums BUT the memory is more
