Advantages: Relieable, Cheap to buy and run Disadvantages: Not the fastest and a bit bulky
I bought my Brother Laser printer about 3 or so years ago. I wasn't sure if it was worth bothering getting a laser printer in the first place, but my wife was doing her Phd and would have to print out her thesis and about 10 trees worth of other stuff.
Initial Cost:
The initial cost of the printer was excellent. At the time it was pretty new to the market and about the cheapest you could get.

The Brother web site appears to currently be keeping up to date with drivers to support this printer for all Windows Operating systems, although in my experience it isn't really needed as Windows will automatically recognise it for you.
Summary:
This is a great budget laser printer, if you print out a load of text documents (of basic diagrams) and you want to do it cheaply, then seriously concider this printer. ...

...So I purchased the Brother laser printer and found it to be excellent. Its very cheap to run toner cartridges cost £17 (from consumables.net)
and they last approx. 3000 sheets you will need a new toner every time you use 3 toner cartridges 9000 sheets this cost £88. However, I believe the consumables are still very cheap compared with the alternatives.
The print quality is superb I can't fault it,(apparently its 600 dpi). You can also print double ... ...odd pages from the printer setup, once this has finished reinsert the paper and select even pages from the printer setup and voila you have a double sided document.
(I did have a few problems with pages sticking together but they where slightly dogeared when I put them in. After I used Staples multipurpose laser printer paper I found the problem was resolved!) Its very fast and (8 pages per minute) and you can print on envelopes cards etc.

The well-designed input paper cassette tray (A5 to Legal) holds 200 sheets, plus a manual feed slot, and provides excellent paper handling. The media setting control allows you to obtain the optimum print quality on differing media types, every time. The cassette even takes C4 envelopes, giving an unparalleled convenience in the handling of routine correspondence. A fast 8ppm printer, utilizing a power packed controller (16 MHz) which gives an impressively fast output. Optimized first page output is <15 seconds.
