new features and builds upon the elements that made Brothers In Arms Road to Hill 30 a runaway success. As Sgt. Joe Red Hartsock, gamers will lead a new squad of men through a series of all new missions and urban environments as they liberate France and eliminate the last bastions of enemy resistance. Brothers In Arms: Earned in Blood adds a new dimension of gameplay with new multiplayer modes and all new Co-Op Skirmish mode.

in Arms is the real "proper history" deal, making your trail of wanton destruction all the more satisfying. A mixture of first person shoot em-up and squad-based strategy, the game features totally authentic locations, weapons and tactics. The lowdown:Since the first Brothers in Arms game only appeared in March, the first question to ask is: what was the rush, folks? Theres no obvious answer. Earned in Blood hardly marks a paradigm shift, but still has a number of cool new features: enemy artificial intelligence is now far more realistic, and the graphics have been noticeably improved, with a lot more urban environments. The all new skirmish mode offers shorter, more abstract, missions for greater longevity than the first game and also a great excuse to team-up with a friend for some co-op action. Most exciting moment:Using a flimsy barn for cover while your men carefully outflank a machinegun nest, allowing you to dash out and blow everything away.Since you ask:All of the battles in the game are based on real WWII events. Official photos, maps, after-action reports and eyewitness accounts were consulted. The bottom line:Still the best WWII game around .Harrison DentAdmire the scenery... and then shoot peopleHas accidentally just shot a puppyIf nothing else, it was a nice day for itSeminal WWII weapon "the blurry gun" makes an appearance

The main strength of Brothers in Arms is the realism. Gearbox software have gone to a major effort to accurately model the terrain and especially the urban environments to recreate the experience of Normandy in 1944. Through-out the game you control Joe Hartstock who in turn is in command of at one or two squad or one squad and a tank. For most missions you have command of a fire team and an assault team. The fire team is used to suppress enemy soldiers and the assault team can be used effectively to flank and destroy the enemy. Both teams can be used for either assault or suppression but the key to success in the game is to match the appropriate task to the right team or you may find your teams being ripped apart by enemy fire.
The controls, especially groups commands are fairly easy to master and the learning curve is very shallow. You can give your teams three commands: move, suppress (fire at the enemy) or assault and enemy position. There are some problems with the AI, when ordering my teams behind cover I often found one or two smart soldiers standing on the wrong side of the cover and then gunned down by the enemy.
Controlling Joe is very simple and similar to most first - person shooters. The hardest part of the game is shooting. You have two views, a third person view and a view down the sights of the gun (varies depends on the type of gun you are currently carrying). Both views are problematic, the gun sights are very restrictive and make it difficult to see the enemy unless they are directly in front of you and the third person view is to far away to be effective.

The visuals in the game are amazing and the look of the game is reminiscent of the colour leached scenes from Saving Private Ryan. I had some issues with the game freezing momentarily at times where there were multiple American and German soldiers on screen but this did not occur to often.
The sound is also a major strength of the game. The voice talent and script lend strength to the authenticity of the games. Commands given to your squads are verbalized by Joe and you can hear the desperation and fear in his voice. Each of the weapon has a distinctive sound which made it very easy to identify. This becomes very useful since when pinned down by German soldiers you can al least tell what they are shooting you with.
This is not a game for gung - ho, trigger happy gamers. Run in a shoot everything tactics will result in a quick death unless you are playing on the easiest difficulty. While not as slow as some as some other tactical shooters, Brothers in Arms still requires some forethought and the ability to move your teams into the right position to be effective. The main tactics used in the game boil down to the four F's: Find the enemy, Fix (suppress) them in place, flank them, finish them.
I enjoyed Brothers in Arms: Earned in Blood and would recommend it to fans of strategy shooters and World War 2 buffs.
Advantages: New challenges Disadvantages: Repeated missions
...So when the Brothers in Arms series started, one had to say to themselves,'not another war game'. Intrigue plays it's part though and I had to go out and buy it to see for myself how it compared with the other games.
The new game called Brother's in Arms Earned in Blood came out towards the end of last year. At the time, Call of Duty 2 was about to be released also, so there was a lot of competition around. So here's my review of the latest war ... ...to be released under the Brothers in Arms heading. The first one, Road to Hill 30 was released a year or two previously. The start of the game introduces you to your character that you are potraying, a sgt. Joe''red'' Harstock. Users who played the first game will know that Harstock was one the characters in your squad, so we automaticaly see that this game is a continuation where the last one finished off.
Harstock is recording his version of events ...
