In my opinion Budvar is truly the king of beers. Definately more satisfying than its American brother, Budweiser, this drink is more than perfect for summer barbeques, evenings in with a movie, or... more

Advantages Advantages Crisp, tasty and refreshing

Disadvantages Disadvantages Easily confused with inferior brands

There's nothing better than a cold bottle of Budweiser, er...Budvar, er...Czechvar....... This is the most famous of all Czech lagers and perhaps the classic example of it's style. The Budweiser brewery was founded in the town of Ceske Budejovice (Budweis in German) in 1895, using water from an underground lake. WHAT'S IN A NAME Anheuser-Busch first brewed Budweiser in St Louis in 1876 while the Budweiser Budvar brewery was launched in 1895. But for centuries previously, beers from the town of Budweis were known as Budweiser beers. The American giant, and Budweiser Budvar have been at ... more

Advantages Advantages Great Flavour. Consistent. Goes Well with Food

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not enough of it

One of the world's truly great beers,Budweiser Budvar,is brewed at Ceske Budejovice in the Czech Republic. That country is ,of course, famed among beer connoiseurs for producing magnificent lagers and places such as Prague,Pilsen and Ceske Budejovice are renowned as great centres of beer production. Among the very best of the Czech lagers,Budweiser Budvar, is the genuine article and should not be confused with Budweiser from the USA. There is,in my opinion,a world of difference between them, which I will not go into here. Budweiser Budvar is full in colour and is virtually amber. It has a big ... more

    Advantages Advantages Thirst quenching goodness

Disadvantages Disadvantages Possibly a bit more expensive than other lagers - but worth it!

In my opinion Budvar is truly the king of beers. Definately more satisfying than its American brother, Budweiser, this drink is more than perfect for summer barbeques, evenings in with a movie, or simply a night out down the pub with your mates. The flavour of Budvar is, in my opinion, a little more yeasty than Budweiser, and it is better for it. Light, clean, crisp and really flavoursome, Budvar always quenches my thirst - with that first sip always the best! Although it is possibly a little more expensive than other lagers, and not quite as readily available in pubs (although most are slowly ... more

In a can, a 330ml bottle or 500ml bottle this beer is the best. Living in Manchester I have the choice of top pubs, bars and restaurants but all those i visit have one thing in common; they serve Budvar. And believe me if you look behind your local you may find that they do too. Just ask or force your local to get some in. Everyone likes Budvar they just don't know it yet! It's like Stella without the hype, it's the underdog that you don't want anyone to find out about because then they'll be none left at the supermarket. IT'S NOT BREWED IN THE UK! as is most the Stella in this country AND ... more

Advantages Advantages A stonking, crisp, clear taste

DisadvantagesDisadvantages Where on Earth can one get hold of it

So, it's a summer Sunday afternoon, the sun beats down on the beer garden. The image of perfection is not quite complete. To complete it there's a cheeky little bottle on the table, droplets of condensation mimicking the saliva on the palate. Anticipation is the best thing about this beer, everyone knows it is brewing perfection so savour the moment. What ever you do though don't touch its big bad brother, he is most definitely evil. He knows where you live and will come back to haunt you in the morning! To answer the question, yes. Or at least I hope it is, otherwise you're not going to like ... more
