Advantages: Cheap, connects to routers of all types I have tried Disadvantages: Breaks easily, driver problems in Vista
and if walls / floors / ceilings come in between the router and your Belkin adapter.
Problems
The Belkin WirelessGadapter has been released in many versions, and I recently tried a version 0, adapter in my vista laptop. This would not function regardless of which version of the driver I downloaded, and this problem could not be solved by people experienced in solving networking issues. I now have wireless internet because I am using the 'E' latest version of the Belkin adapter. The other issue I have with the Belkin adapters, is their vulnerability. Plugged straight into the side or backof a laptop, they stick out by about 3 inches, and can easily be knocked or bent. This can also happen when the laptop is put down on an uneven surface, or while it is carried around. The adapter comes with a USB extension cable, that could be used ...
Advantages: Cheap Disadvantages: Not enough information on software or packaging.
I recently bought a Belkin wireless adaptor when I went into a house share and needed to have the internet. I use the internet but I know little about the technical side of things. I paid £19.99 for the adaptor in PC world who only had Belkin at the time which I thought was not expensive. However installing it was a nightmare.
The 3 easy steps on the box seemed so easy; Install the software, plug the adaptor into a USB PORT - start networking! If only it was that simple. Every time my computer searched for a network it crashed. I phoned the Belkin company who took me step by step through the technical part and still we could not get internet. Eventually the Belkin assistant told my for some reason my computer was not recognising the new network. Being increasingly frustrated I considered taking the adaptor back for a refund ...
Advantages: Not limited to using on a pc slot can use it on both laptop and desktop pc's. Disadvantages: Can drail battery power.
I bought this to use with my Netgear DG834G router and I must say it's excellent. Not only can I use it on my laptop but as it's usb on desktop computers as well. This makes it handy when I have other people round with there computers I can connect them to my network and give them internet access.
It can do 11mbps and 54mbps and will work on USB 1 but slower.
It comes with a usb extension cable so it can be positioned for best signal. You also get the Netgear version on Wireless conectivity software which you can use instead of the Windows version which is much better, with the Netgear software I picked up a few networks in my areas where as the Windows version only picked up the one. ...
